I made....well hubby made this great soap and it lathers great...big bubbles which I just love and it is moisterizing. The only thing that bothers me is that it is on the tad side of being very slick as you use it....borderline slimy. I was just wondering if that bothers people or not. I did order some soap from someone online and they soap was pretty slimy feeling as you use it and it bothered me. Although this soap isn't quite as slick feeling as that one that I bought, I was just curious about how you guys like your soap to feel when you are using it. All concerns aside....it is a great soap...love the bubbles that it makes and how it makes your skin feel!! Good job to hubby!! And the smell is love spell! Yummy!!!!

This is going to sound gross, but for my own personal soaps.....the slimier the better......that's usually a good indicator that my skin isn't going to be dried out when I'm done. So, I make a lot of castiles and bastiles for myself.

For others, it varies......since a lot of people hate slime, I make a blend of hard and soft oils. :)

I do have to say that it doesn't bother me as much as the soap I bought from another soaper. And it is great at not drying out my skin. The other soaps that I have made lather well but to me they are a little drying to the skin so I'm thinking that this recipe of his is a keeper.

I like the soft feeling( or slimy) on my skin, i bought some w goats milk and it was very moisturizing. I think people like bubbles, but it is more drying. I make mine w coconut, palm, olive and always add something like, castor or shea or cocoa butter.

This recipe has those oils as well as castor and shea. I tell ya, the more I use it, the more I like it!

Personally, I don't like slimy soap. I know most people really like castile soap, but I can't use it. I made a 5 lb batch of it once and I don't even give it away because I don't want to introduce a lot of friends and family to handmade soap by giving them something really slimy. :(

It's all personal preference! Obviously other people like it, so don't listen to me! ;)

is castile soap almost all olive? I always add other oils too, what is your fav recipe?

Castile in the purest sense of the word is 100% olive oil. I love it, but AshleyR is right, it does have a slimy lather.....that gets better as it ages.

Most of what you see in the stores is what a lot of soapers call bastile....it's mostly olive oil, with a few other oils added.

A good one I've found is 70% Olive oil, 25% Coconut Oil, and 5% Castor oil. This gives you a mild, moisturizing soap, but less of the slimy lather than the pure castile. :)

the bastille that sells the best for me is one that is 72% olive with 15.5% avocado and 6.25% each castor and cocoa butter. with 50/50 oatmilk and goats milk, and ground oats. most people who buy this and come back for more are using this as a facial soap.

i just did a new formula here about a month ago with 80% olive and 10% each avocado and shea. i did 100% oatmilk ( which i won't do again the starch thickens when you add the lye and it is like wall paper paste) added some raw avocado. even though it should sit at least another couple of months i have been using it for my face and it already has ubber lather for a soap with so much olive oil.
