ok so I had to order someone's soaps to see what it's like. I've never actually used handmade soaps before.

So I ordered a sample pack and it smelles so good. I'm still exploring it though.

I order soaps from other soapers.....it's a good way to gauge the progress on your own product. Get some from several different people....determine what you like (and don't like) and go from there. :)

i ordered from herbaria

So far, I can tell you I don't like the smell of almond spice but i love the citronella/marigold I got as a freebie and the citrus/oatmeal

The lavender is strong smelling but it could be because it was packaged. I'll have to leave it out and see.

I could smell them through the package..yum!

i've ordered from herbaria too. some i liked, some i didn't. i also ordered a few from botanie and i love those! i can't bring myself to use the "forest tonic" yet. i just sniff it...YUM!

i also have some soaps from a friend here. i just want to eat them. ;)

i don't understand why people don't like citronella. I could eat it. I've always loved the smell!

Then again I don't like cinnamon or gardenia so...

Gonna have to find an excuse to wash my hands soon :D

I order other people's soaps all the time. It's not research or because I'm "spying" but because I love good soap.

I also buy other people's soaps all the time!! Mike is right...it is good way to comparing your products with what others are coming up with.

all I have to say is wow. Even if i can't make any soap, i don't think i'm going back to store bought, ever.

My hands feel so soft and clean without feeling stripped. wow!

Ok so I'm totally hooked!

And me too! The first OP (other peoples) soap I ordered was stardusters, and boy was I impressed! Mind you I hadn't even begun to CP and I was a little intimidated to start then.....however starduster mentored and encouraged me through this forum - along with all you other wonderful soapy people! - and I am now a card-carrying soaping addict

Tanya :)

Yeah Starduster

and yay Tanya for taking that leap!

well i guess mine was pseudo research since I've never had homemade soap before and I wanted to know what homemade soap is supposed to feel like..LOL Man, my daughter went nuts about it. I got their sample pack and she sniffed them all and picked the almond spice and she loved it. Course she loved chasing after the soap, a whole new experience to her.

Then she had fun showing me she was literally squeaky clean! That's some good stuff. Hubs is gonna try the french lavender tomorrow. I may need a few more soap dishes for this..lol

I've only discovered the joys of homemade soaps fairly recently, found a seller at our local downtown market and decided to try it out, and it rapidly spiraled into a sickness, lol. I ordered more online, bought several bars from the local lady, and then decided to take the plunge and try making my own.

It is research in a way, I guess. I've been reading the labels on the ones I adore as well as the ones I'm not so crazy about, trying to get an idea of which oils and additives are contributing to the way they feel. Can't say that I'm soap-savvy enough to really get that right yet, but I'm hoping that making a bunch more of my own batches will help with the comparisons.

I have....let me see now....8 bars of handmade soap (mine and others) in my shower; my daughter has 4 in her shower and my sons (who share a shower) have 3......so yes - you will definitely need a few more soap dishes!!!

Tanya

I have ordered soaps online, as well as aquired some from other soapers that I am friends with (you know who you are!!). I love them all, and I could never in a million years go back to commercial soap, I'd rather spray myself with vinegar  than use that soap.
I love making soap, and I love seeing other peoples soap. It sets the bar that little bit higher and gives me the next level to try to reach. I don't think that I will ever accomplish all that I want to in soapmaking because the possibilities are endless, and the amount of talented soapers out there is astonishing, but I am going to have an absolute blast trying!!

soaping , a way of life

You will make some very memorial soaps , friends and memories through this new love.
I remember having soap, bought or presents over the years that would send me off to another world when using them.
The textures, colours , smells , presentation.
By using a special soap I would feel nurtured.
The idea that one day I would be able to be a part of creating something like pulled me towards it slowly as time and circumstance permited.
I think that is what has got me all wrapped up in the soaping thing.
The alchemy of soap. Being able to express my self through this challenging medium . Always feeling that there is something even more beautifull out there to reach to. Or sometimes just that I can rebatch and fix something up  .
So it is never a futile excersize. Always rewarding.

Even if for some reason I give up on it, I am never going back to commercial soap. That's for sure!

Ditto carebear :D .
Ditto x 3. And I just can't resist some! I have the "collection" that I don't use 'cuz they are so pretty or unique. Tab and Deda each have a bar in the "collection". Another good thing is to participate in swaps. I have received some really yummy things to try that way.
