I so admire you folks who hand stir! I tried with my first batch cuz I wanted to get a feel for the process, spent 40 minutes stirring without trace, pulled out the stick, reached trace in 15 seconds and never looked back.
 
i am a new soaper but I went with the stick blender method and WOW it's so fast and easy!! with the time it takes to get the lye to cool and measure everything out I can not imagine having to hand stir it for a long time too!! i just don't have that much time!

I have no qualms about using the stick blender when necessary. It's just that soaping cooler and using a higher lye concentration keep me from needing it so much. And in that case the wire whisk does give me better control. But if things aren't moving as fast as I'd like... out comes the SB!
