I made a salt bar - 50% coconut oil, 50% salt, 20% superfat, lavender eo - and for about a month it did wonderfully. My acne was gone, my skin tone was more even. Well, it has stopped working. *sigh*

Confused - how can you make a soap with only 50% coconut oil and no other oils? Do you mean 100% coconut oil (your only oil) and an equal amount in weight of salt?

been there, done that, dixie.

for some strange reason, this almost always happen to me. even with expensive things from various dermatologists. for a while it's working great, let's give it a year tops, then bam! it's like your skin is slowly getting immune to the same treatment over and over. i am currently loving the oil cleansing method, but i doubt this one sticks.

There is a great acne soap recipe on the teach soap site which has grapeseed oil in it. Works like a charm. Maybe give it a try?

I find that a steady diet of salt bars offers diminishing returns but if you vary them with other soaps, they work well.

do you have the link to the recipe for the acne soap, judy? I love grapeseed oil, i'm currently using that for my oil cleansing method. perhaps it's not a bad idea to make soap with it too.

Coconut oil clogs my face up fiercely. Same with butters, avocado oil, and olive oil. Some people use coconut oil to *treat* theirs. It's so strange how things effect us all differently.

Grapeseed oil and apricot kernel oil work well for me, though.

I make a bar that a lot of people like with neem, babassu, grapeseed are my main oils...Seems to help many people but like you my daughter did great with it for a couple of years and now it does not work. Sometimes I think you have to switch around a little. Sometimes I think we become acclimated to the ingredients rendering them no longer useful or at least for awhile

Try honey mask. If I have a bad acne I usually apply manuka honey on it, leave it for around 15-20 minutes and wash it away with warm water. It works better than any acne medication out there for me.

That's been my experience. But even years later, when I try a product again, it still doesn't work! Neutrogena worked well for me for over a year, but years later it has no affect.

The dreaded acne. At 43, you'd think I'd be over that, but no. I look like a teen except for my eye wrinkles. lol. A couple months ago, I took a intensive probiotic pill daily. My acne cleared in 2 weeks and my skin was beautiful. Well, fast forward, I ran out and now I am covered again. I feel sugar and an over abundance of yeast is one of my problems coupled with pollution, stress and mold at my day job.

Has anyone else noticed a food correlation?

It doesn't matter what soap recipe I use, I still break out.

I feel the same way about the acne! lol I took Accutane in my 20s, and my skin got completely cleared for good 10 years. Thank God for those amazing years! But... it came back in late 30's and still lives with me - on and off or sometime better or worse...

I dont' put any thing else on face other than soap - not even sunscreen - only because it makes my face to break out which I cannot afford to have! But I put an eye balm for eye winkles daily.

Now right, I use sea salt bar and acne lard soap (I forgot whose recipe it was) They both work well - so far.

Yes, I noticed that whenever I was eating a vegan diet(not that I am...tried to lose weight), my skin got clear. So, I do believe there is a correlation between food and skin.

I found vitamin B12 supplements did wonders for my skin, but stopped working after a while as with everything else! I have cracked mine at the moment with serious moisturising with palmer's cocoa butter of all things and a Manuka honey charcoal facial bar.
