Pictures in this post showing how I swirled:

And here's out it turned out (partial gel + ash + NO swirls) - where did my swirls go?!?

Mmmm, I'm no good at telling you what happened, just keep those critters at your place :? .

Your soap was too thick to really swirl. And your skewer probably cut right through the thick soap and that's why it didn't drag any to swirl. Does that make sense?

Start the process when your soap is just emulsified....not traced.

I know you've discussed the "just emulsified" stage but I have problems with it. A couple of times I thought I had reached this stage, poured and the soap separated (so obviously I was wrong about it being emulsified).

Other times, I wait to make sure and then it seems to zip past just emulsified into pudding.

Maybe I should try embeds.

That does make sense Amanda. This is the lightest trace I'd poured at in a while, but the green was much thicker by the time I got it colored and poured, so the whole thing ended up too thick. I gotta work faster.

I haven't tried pouring at emulsification yet. But I want to do the spoon swirls like the youtube video and as long as that takes, I better try it for that.

I keep thinking I'm not cut out for making fancy soap and should just stick to well made, nicely scented soap but I keep getting sucked in to try lol

Definitely the thickness.

I always pour the batter I'm going to color into a separate bowl just as it comes together before light trace.

That way, by the time I add the color to it, it's at light trace. Then when you pour your base color, and then your color on top of it, it actually cuts through what's already in the mold, so your swirl will reach the middle and the bottom of your bar.

That aside I like this soap, it looks like it's wearing a fancy hat!

Thank you Fyrja! I saw Anne Marie from BB doing that but it didn't "stick" that I should do that. Off to make a bunch of soap for my sister, hopefully I'll come back with better pictures :D
