Allow myself to introduce...me. I'm Michael. I'm from the Buckeye State. Last year I was calculating how much I was spending annually on multi-blade razor cartridges and decided to give safeties a try, and I'm officially hooked on safety razors. I'm even returning to straights after eighteen years.

Having tried mass-produced and artisan shave soaps, I got curious as to how I might experiment in making my own.

Howdy from Colorado, Michael, and Welcome!

Just a head's up... There's more to shaving than the soap -- if you haven't already done so, I'd recommend joining an online wet shaving forum like The Shave Nook.

I hate to tell ya, but you should know, there's more to soap making than following a recipe. Please take a moment to go to the Beginner's Forum and find the thread about learn to soap online to get a gist of what it's all about. Hopefully that will save you a lot of time and energy in your pursuit of the perfect shave.

Enjoy the journey!

Yeah, I'm a member there and at The Shave Den. I was a member of Badger and Blade until they booted me for no stated reason—that forum's moderators don't explain the rules very well and I've since learned that most were banned for violating some obscure rule without even realizing it. I find the other two forums are much more relaxed in tone and fairer in how the rules are enforced. I've actually got a small collection of shaving soaps and creams including Tabac, Van Der Hagen, Dr. Jon's, Artisan Soap Shoppe, and Taylor of Old Bond Street. But I want to experiment with making my own to see what I can come up with.

Oh, I know. I have a beeswax candle-making kit and right now I'm looking for silicone molds to use because the sent me a metal one and didn't bother to tell me that getting a beeswax candle out of a metal mold is a b*** and a half. So if anyone knows where I can get decent silicone pillar molds, please let me know.
