I figured since I had confessed to making a batch of coffee soap, that the least I could do is show some pics. So here it is. The first pic where it looks much darker, is when it was just poured. The whiter pic is as of this morning. I wish it would have stayed that darker coffee color but that's ok. This stuff is HARD. It got kinda solid after the first 24 hours. I also remembered that I didn't put any kind of oil or anything in the mold before hand. Ooops. So should I let it sit in the mild for 4 weeks before trying to cut it and release it? I'm thinking I'm just going to cut my bars while its in the mold. Might be easier that way.

Let it keep sitting until you can see a small space around the edges then try to flip it.
Thing is the oils will create a vacuume in the glass.
You can freeze also which works well to remove but I've never put glass in the freezer.

I'm sure someone will say if it ok to do.
How long has it been curing in there?

Oh cool. Thank you. It has only been two days. Ill be sure to keep watching it and looking for the gap.

Glass is just one that I can see holding on to it since there is no real nonstick to it. Might just be longer than normal to get it out of there.

2 days it should be about there. Did u post your recipe?
How soft is it when you push down a bit?

This is the recipe I used...
51 oz. of olive oil
31.5 oz. of coconut oil
28 oz. of chilled, brewed coffee (as the liquid base)
11.94 oz. of lye
3 tablespoons of ground coffee beans

But after using my mad math skills, I was able to figure out that the small dish you see there would only hold about 32oz. So I cut the above recipe in 1/4 and looks more like this...

12.75 oz. of olive oil
7.87 oz. of coconut oil
7 oz. of chilled, brewed coffee (as the liquid base)
2.98 oz. of lye
1 tablespoon of ground coffee beans

When I press on it, it does take some effort to even start feeling my finger make an indent. Im think a little less lye and water may have been better.

Your numbers for lye and water look about right.. Guessing you did a water discount?
But your cleansing is higher than I'd do unless you superfatted?

But not sure you would have done all that on your first batch.

I say put it in the fridge for a bit to harden up more. Otherwise it's a wait
Or freezer thing I think. Hope others chime in.. I'm no pro. Can just tell
You what would work for me and what I'd do. :)

Well its still nice to hear what other things I can try. So unless I hear differently, Ill put it in the fridge after work and see what happens.

maybe try sitting in some hot water might soften it up some to release easier, I have never used glass mold before and I have read some post that it was not a good idea(not sure), I use plastic food wrap in all my wood molds release very easy.

best of luck with it

Hi Crazy8! Please...please...please - don't use glass again. OK? Lye solutions (even incorporated into the batter) will do bad things to glass. Over time glass particles will become incorporated into the soap. Invest in a good mold to pour your soap batter in and life will be easier especially when time to unmold. Save the glass cookware for making casseroles. Great - now I am hungry.

Ok I solemnly swear that I wont use glass any more. But what if no mater what you do to get that real rough exfoliate in your bars. Gould one use glass shards then? :) lol But yeah I will and have planned on getting/building real molds. I just didn't think glass would be a bad idea. Are you telling me to use the cookware for casseroles because I'm from Minnesota? We do hot dishes here too you know...lol

Thank you for the advice. Everyday I learn something new. :)

Hi Crazy8! I've just started my soap making journey as well. I'm still waiting on a few packages, most importantly my lye. My husband is a collector and so he gets packages ALL THE TIME! Lol I think he's addicted to the feeling you get when a new box arrives. Now I get to be apart of that type of fun.

Your soap looks nice, but e first picture looks like its still wet? But I bet it'll be some nice soap and smell nice too! Can't wait to do my first batch. So excited!! Maybe we need a newbie soap maker part thread? Lol :-D

Well congrats on joining soap makers and package receivers anonymous. Thank you for the compliment on the soap. It is still wet in that first picture. I did love that color though compared to the much white version it is now. I cant wait to try it and see how well it works.
I think we need to have soap swaps too. I would be totally down for try other peoples soaps and seeing what people think of mine.
