Hello everyone..I just made my 3rd batch of goats milk soap..my 1st 2 batches were fine but turned very dark so i read that I should add the GM at trace - which I did & it looks fantastic. My question is ...Do I have to insulate this loaf mold..is it a must because I am reading two different ways to do this. 1 says not to insulate so it will be the same color all the way through and the others I have to ...IM CONFUSED...PLEASE HELP :?

To help keep your soap lighter you can soap at room temperature (oils and lye both room temp). Then after you pour your soap into the mold put it in the freezer. If you're lucky you will prevent the soap from going through the gel phase and it will look light and creamy. If you're not lucky you may get partial gel, which is when the middle of the soap still heats up and gels but the outer edges of the loaf don't. If you're really unlucky (or you take it out of the freezer too soon) the soap might go through gel anyway! Tricky soap. I like to leave mine in the freezer over night because it gelled on me once when I took it out too soon.

There is no right or wrong way and if you don't want to risk partial gel then you can just wrap it in a towel and let it gel. It will be darker after it gels.

LOL...I guess Im unlucky...it did a partial gel in the center. But thanks so much for the reply & the added help. Ill try more freezer time tonight.

Some people have had good luck putting a fan on their soap so it doesn't gel. They just elevate the mold, so the air can reach all the way around.

I use wooden molds so I dont think it would matter. Im gonna try the freezer trick for longer than 30mins. PLUS..I (like a dummy) didnt put it in the freezer for atleast a half hour because I forgot...so its really ALL my fault LOL. THANKYOU SO MUCH ANYWAY

Goats Milk

Hi
Interesting, I have made a couple of batchs of soap using frozen goats milk. I froze it in ice cube trays, but the goats milk altered the smell of the soap. Has anyone else experience this?
