I have been making goat milk soap for a few months and it always turns out well but dark in color and lately I have had a few "small" volcanoes. I decided not to wrap it in towels this time and am just letting it sit out. Will it still go through the gel phase?

Most likely it will still gel since the sugars usually heat it up very well.

I usually throw mine in the freezer, then fridge to keep it from overheating and still end up with partial gel.

24 hours later I have the most beautiful bars of soap I have ever made. It is a beautiful pale cream shade and set up very well. It did go through the gel phase without a cover.

And remember to post pics in the Photo Gallery section unless you need help with a problem, in which case it's helpful for diagnostic purposes to have pics. Photo Gallery is the appropriate Show n' Tell area :)

I am going to post this picture here of two bars for comparison to demonstrate the difference it made in the color of the soap. I used the identical recipe and the one not covered came out so nice and light. This picture really doesn't do the color justice as it is actually much lighter.

I make my goats milk soap with frozen milk. I take my time mixing in the lye and letting the milk melt and try to keep the mixture at a cool temperature . I cool my oils to room temperature before mixing them and then only cover the mold with wax or freezer paper. No insulation. It really helps to keep the soap from darkening.
