Can you HP a GM soap? I tried a GM soap a couple of times but can't seem to find a way to avoid partial gel. I thought maybe HP would take care of that. Any special instructions when Hping a GM? Would appreciate any help.

I've never done GM HP but I have done CM HP and it turned out just fine, if that helps any. The results, IMO, could be iffy. You'd still want to prevent the orange burn in the beginning.

It works nice to add the GM frozen to the end of the cook as an additive also.

Are you trying to get a full gel or avoid gel altogther? Maybe you can force it CP one way or the other.

I've tried both. Tried to force gel in the oven and tried to prevent gel in the freezer. Both ways (several tries of each) I'm still getting the orange circle in the middle of the soap. If I add at the end of the cook, how much liquid and do I then discount the water amount used for the lye solution? I have the powdered form of GM, could I just add that without diluting it, at the end of cook?

I do know that she uses powdered GM mixed with water and then frozen. I think she also adds some ice along with it. I'm not really sure why that is though. I added cold coconut cream to my last two HP batches and those mixed in nice and creamy. Surely, the beginning water is discounted.

Ok, I didn't end up with any exact numbers but here goes.

The whole batch with water and oils comes to about 60 ounces. To that she saves back 2 oz of water to mix with 2 tbsp GM powder. She also saves some water back to mix honey with. She freezes both and then adds them at the end of the cook. This is her Oatmeal and Honey GM soap.

I'm sorry that that is the best I have for now. I'll try to have her email her recipe to me.

You can discount the liquid the amount of the GM you are using and add the GM after the soap finishes cooking along with your fragrance. I add a bit of oat flour to thicken the mixture.

Any ideas how much GM powder mixed with how much water I should add to a one pound batch?

i'm not sure of the proper amount to use, or how to do it in HP. in CP, I added the powder like I would additives or powdered colors. that way, i didn't have to add it to the water or have difficulties with the lye.

i added about 2 heaping tbls for my 2.5# batches. am interested in what others recommend.

i figured with something like this, it was kind of like eating - doesn't matter in which order you eat your dinner, it all gets mixed in the same spot, eventually. (obviously this wouldn't work with every ingredient)

I'm just winging it here and waiting for someone who actually knows what they are talking about to pipe up... :D

Near as I can figure, if the water is at 38% (which I really don't know), it would be 44 oz oils and 16 oz water to equal the 60. Then using 2 tbsp gm powder to 2 oz of the water.

Thus I come up with just under 1 oz water and just under 1 tbsp gm powder for a one pound batch. I'd probably just do the 1 oz/1tbsp if I were doing it.

Surely, somebody else has an idea on this right?

Full gel: sit mold on a warm(not hot! just warm enough that it'll retain soaps heat) heat wheat bag, place another on top, wrap lightly,& watch like a hawk! Soon as you have total gel, unwrap it & get it cool.Ive done this several times with good results, but esp. with ind. molds.

I love to do GM HP. I use liquid GM, but you could use powder mixed with a tiny bit of water. If your going with the 38% water (which I suggest you do) then just add a TBs. or two of water to the powder, mix well.
I add my GM at the end of the cook....like you are SF'ing.

Hi Dixie. thanks for the tips!
So, if you add the GM powder mixed with some water after the cook, it won't turn a funny colour?
I'm just feeling bummed about all my tan/brown soaps lately

I couldn't find a pic of CPCHP but I found this CP that I did a white swirl in, added GM at trace and the sponification process did not turn it dark. Thats why I add mine at trace, so it doesn't turn dark. But, If I am making 100% GM soap, that takes practically all day. I freeze the GM add lye sooooo very slowly. The whole time my lye bucket is in a sink of ice water. And I get cream color soap ...not dark.
