I searched for "melt and pour base recipe". What did you search for?

there is also a book by kayla fioravanti about making mp bases (complete with recipes), which is a very good book imo. there's a kindle version which comes quite cheap.

Does anyone know how "converting" a recipe into a clear soap like this affects the properties?

@songwind
all i know is that you need a certain amount of hard oils, otherwise if the soap is too soft is a pita. i'm speaking from a mp perspective, that is if your soap is too soft (or has the incorrect amount of solvents) it's gonna take forever to set up.
i found stearic acid works best to harden the soap.

Is there a way to make it m&p friendly that doesn't make it clear?

I wonder if that might be a feasible alternative to rebatching and/or masterbatching.

if you don't want to make it clear, you can simply add titanium dioxide. that is actually what the difference is b/w clear and opaque mp bases.

there is this lady on youtube:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gfSW5duZyk"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gfSW5duZyk[/ame]

she rebatched a cp and turned it into an mp simply by doing the normal steps in rebatching, and adding solvents at the end to make it into a mp consistency. in that video, she turned a cp into a hp, mp, and ls. very interesting.

one of her comments, as far as how much solvents are needed:

You can take any recipe either as a rebatch or from the beginning process and use it as a MP recipe. PG up to 25% however depending on oils you can go as low as 5-7%.(depending on how may times you need to melt it).. Sorbitol is also used, but it can also be left out depending on your oils, if my highest % is cococut then i use sorbitol. If you are using a recipe from the beginning, and i recommend a cure time before you remelt and scent.

Hmm. I may have to experiment with this.

I like the idea of making large batches of unscented soap, then scenting it on demand. Unfortunately, there is a pretty strong prejudice against M&P soaps in the online shaving community, which is my primary initial customer base.

Decisions, decisions.
