Getting Ready

So due to the rising cost of goats milk I have decided to raise my own goats to get the milk. So we have to get the barn ready and fix the fence by the end of March. That is when my little beauties will arrive. I say little because they are Nigerian dwarf goats. I am super stoked. I haven't raised goats since I was a teenager and showed them at the 4-H fairs. I figured I would start out with 3 and go from there.

I have goats too! I started with Nigerian Dwarfs and now have a couple Nubian/Alpine crosses as well. I hope your new adventure goes smoothly

Congratulations on the new goats!

Always learning something new... I just read that the shape of the pupil gives a goat a wide field of view and keeps the sun from bleaching out their view of the grass.

They definitely are weird! In spite of that, goat math is like chicken math. 2+1=18. Or something like that! Let's just say I can make goat milk soap to my heart's content and still have plenty for our 8 children, making cheese, butter, ice cream, yogurt and anything else I can dream up, and STILL have plenty to share with 350 chickens!

Goats are sooooo cute. And baby chicks... adorable. One of the other vendors at my main market has chicks a few times a year for sale. They are utterly adorable and she always laughs at me because I coo over them and then post pictures of them on my business page.
