Ok have all of my supplies and safety gear. Still waiting for a few ingredients to arrive in the mail. My first batch will be a 1# 100% CO for my laundry. I will expand from there.

I figure if I mess a small simple soap up, I need to find a new hobby :)

I'm sure I will mess up but if I give up that easily DH will bonk me in the head after buying all of this stuff

Lol...I know right? My DH keeps asking, when I'm going to sell something?....I'm not even close. I've only made @10 batches. So much to learn! It's a steep learning curve. The people on this forum are so helpful and generous with sharing info and experience. It's helped me a lot! Watching YouTube videos and reading soaper blogs also are great sources of help. Keep us posted! You'll be great!

I have been watching vidoes and reading boards for about a month. I already make my own laundry soap but I was buying the soap bars to put in it. And last month, I figured what the heck I would give it a try and make my own bars. And then expand from there. Then I figured once I get a few batches under my belt I will start making batches to give for gifts.

I even had DH watching videos with me last night. I was really surprised, because I would have to pause the video to answer his questions

Oh good choice for your first soap! Its very pretty and SO useful :) Save some bits for stain sticks!

I have an old deodorant tube that DH won't use, so I am going to throw the deodorant away and use the tube to put some CO in to make a stain stick. Read about the stain stick last night :)

I wouldn't, unless that plastic has to have a 2 or a 5 on the bottom in the little triangle. Plastics will melt in the high temperature of saponification, not to mention what the lye may do to it. Better to just cut one bar in half lengthwise and use by holding it.

Hope all goes well. Regarding DHs and so on asking about the outlay, don't forget that a lot of hobbies cost money to do and bring nothing in. If you took up skydiving, no one would ask when you're going to start making money from it - it's something you do for fun and there are costs involved.

Preparation is key, and starting simple is really doing yourself a favor. Sounds like you're ready for success.....good luck!!!

OK after looking at 7 different types of anti-persperant/deodorant tubes, I could not find one marking on any of them. So, I did a google search and learned alot about deodorant tubes and recycling them. :) Not an easy task. So, for now I will scrap the idea of putting my stain sticks in a tube.

I was showing DH some of the photos the ladies were posting on one of the FB groups last night and then I posted my little soap area. Mine looked tiny compared to theirs. It was actually neat seeing how some folks set up their soaping area.

So, after DH and I talked a little he said he was glad to see that I am finally going to have a hobby. He said he doesn't know how I do it sitting around staring at 4 walls on a daily basis. It is not easy, trust me!! For medical reasons I had to quit work in 2011 :-( I miss working. I miss my boss and co-workers.

We are prepared for the money it is going to cost going into making the soap and I found ways around spending a lot of equipment. Dollar store items. And I found this neat little mini food processor to turning my laundry bars into "powder" for 6.95 at Fred's :) I took DH's old SB and DD gave me the white cart that I have everything on. She had it in her room for a tv stand and she just recently bought a new one so this worked out well.

All in all the only cost was the ingredients. I purchased small to get started and give me time to hunt around for better bulk bargains.

SO today I will make my 100% CO and post pics. I am doing the CPHP soaping method.
