Hey folks,
Just a quick introduction to say hello; I've been looking around the forums for a while and found everyone here to be the most informative, comprehensive and active group of soap makers online. I am from SE Queensland, Australia so I was pleased to see a few other Australians posting here too. At the moment I may not be able to contribute very much to conversations but I do have a lot of questions.
I started making soap about a year ago while I was at university. I didn't enjoy the course I was taking (Psychology) and when it came time to study I would find the least similar activity to studying and do that instead. Making bread or lemon merangue pies, little bit of gardening etc. and this is when I came across a simple soap recipe and gave it a crack. I graduated despite my course having little to do with soap making but have since changed directions and started an electrical apprenticeship (I do keep my soap making quiet on job sites though).
Anyway, I have had moderate success using cold process methods with a basic olive oil, sunflower oil and canola oil mixture (I liked this mixture because it was nice and cheap to practice with), I have used the same oils to make a goats milk soap for my fiancee since she has some skin problems, I somehow managed to scent one batch with lavendar essential oils (although that has never worked for me before or since that batch) and have just started experimenting with hot process soap.
Hopefully by joining this forum I will find out a bit more about hot process soap, natural colouring and scenting techniques, liquid soap making and making moulds for my soap. Plus I saw you had a candle section so I might give that a go aswell.
Well, this introduction turned out longer than I anticipated so I will leave it there and talk more on the other boards. Thanks for having me,
Reece
