This is my 6th batch of soap. Happy how this came out, but this batch and my last batch have been very tacky coming out of the mold and some batter was sticking to the side of the mold. Looks a little sloppy. It was in the mold for more than 24 hours. Will post the recipe in next post. Anybody out there have any reason why it stuck to the side of the mold and is so sticky. I guess I need to be more patient and let it sit in the mold for longer?

Here is the recipe for the above soap.

If you put the soap in the freezer for 20-40 minutes, then let it sit out for about 10 minutes, the resulting firmness + condensation will help with a clean release. Just don’t attempt to cut if it is frozen solid - wait till it softens.

Otherwise, you could just wait longer before unmolding. Each recipe and even each batch of the same recipe can vary as to how long it takes to firm up enough to release without sticking.

I’m not always patient, so you can guess which route I tend to choose. 😏

Most of my soap that's sticky or overly soft is soap that has stayed too cool so it has not gelled.

You can be patient, as AliOop advised, and let the soap firm up over some days. Even if the soap releases cleanly if chilled, the soap is still going to need some time -- maybe a few days -- to firm up more so it cuts cleanly. Or expect some ragged cuts. At least that's been my experience.

Another option is to do a "rescue oven process" -- basically you warm the soap in the oven (like a usual CPOP method) to get the soap to gel and firm up that way.

Thanks as usual DeeAnna. I suspect you are right that it did not gel. I made it at night and went to bed so I was not able to see if it gelled or not. Also I had a decent looking pattern on the top and didnt wrap it in towels because I did not want to ruin the top. I have to come up with a way of wrapping up the mold without having to worry about the towel falling into the batter. I am currently just using a 2.5lb Crafters Choice 1501 silicone mold and my recipes always fill right to the top (2.5" tall) so whatever I put on top to insulate will definitely be touching the batter. I think I am going to try my hand at CPOPing my next batch.

This looks super cool! Great job! Are you a Minnesota Vikings fan? :)

I use a silicon mold. I usually unmold after 24 hours. If the sides of the mold pull away easily, then I know I can unmold. If not, I wait another painfully loooong 24 hours. It should feel like cheddar cheese.

I pour to just below the top of the mold. Then cover with plastic wrap, cardboard, and then pile towels on top.

I'm still chuckling over 'babysitting it like your first-born child'! Thanks for keeping us updated.

I am no expert, so take mho for that - but your soft oils are 51% and 49% for hard oils, could that contribute to your softness/stickiness (esp. with castor and RBO)? - but your soap looks amazing, wish I could smell it!!!
I just made a batch a few weeks ago trying to use up oils (and use up chunks of ugly soap) - it ended up being 56% soft oils and sat on my counter until today because it was so soft and I did pop it in a warm oven overnight after I made it, so it went throught gel, but it was still very soft for weeks:rolleyes:- probably should've popped it in the freezer.....

Not a Vikings fan, New York Giants fan here. Chose those colors because I was messing around with some color wheel app I have and those two colors were opposite each other on the wheel so they are complimentary to each other.
