I'm super new to soapmaking and am wondering about FO usage. Most of the resources I've consulted to date state that a normal average usage is about 0.5 oz. of FO per pound of oil.

However, if I like a stronger smelling soap, can I use 1 oz. of FO per pound of oil? Or will that make my batch seize or discolor (or cause other problems)?

moved from CP.

It depends on the FO. Many of the companies will give a recommended amount. Brambleberry has a "fragrance calculator" that lets you choose what you are making (CP soap, lotion, etc) and choose the fragrance (FO or EO) and gives you a recommendation for light, medium and strong. I, personally, never use more than the "strong" amount.

I do like BB's fragrance calculator! I think they recommend .7 per pound of soap, but it really depends on the fragrance. This is an area where I really depend on reviews.
Cheers!
