HI
To date I have made any batches of CP soap, but have only just started to experiment with scenting. I have made 2 batches and scented with a "fragrance oil" at trace...both times it has caused my mix to seize and I have had to glop the mix in the mould, I miss the nice easy pour that I get without the frangrance seize. What am I doing wrong?

Hi ChrissyB, I am only new to CP soaping (5 batches so far) however I have only used EOs or FOs which the supplier has already tested in CP and given me notes on. Are your FOs skin-safe soap-safe ones? A lot of cheaper ones (e.g. $2 shop and the like) may not be intended for soaping :? Some FOs can accelerate trace like crazy! Or discolour, or both.

Are you in Newcastle NSW Aus? Or Newcastle, US or Newcastle, UK? I am from Newcastle area Australia and I buy my FOs online from Aussie Soap Supplies (WA) or Big Tree Supplies.

So far I have had good results with EOs - especially lime or may chang. Hopefully more experienced soapers will happen along soon :D

I am waiting on some essential oils that I have ordered from Aussie Soap Supplies...but of course havent' waited for them to come and wanted to crack on with it anyway!! And yes they are the el cheapo ones from the $2 shop...the only other decent oils that I have seen for sale easily are Tea Tree, Lavender and Eucalyptus.
I have some colours coming from Aussie Soap, so pretty soon my plain old soap won't be plain!!
My favourite store soap is the lemongrass soap by the Eco Shop, so I am hoping to mimic that with lemongrass oil.

what fragrance oils are you using?

floral scents are notorious for causing problems. and if the oils are not designed to be used with CP soap (super high pH) then they are often problematic - including those designed to be used with MP soap.

you can check out some FOs (probably not the ones you got) on the Scent Review Board (the address is around here somewhere, I don't have the link on this computer).

Oh, and don't try to use a perfume product - alcohol and soaping don't mix.
