I had a really dumb moment just a bit ago. I decided to take a blob of the HP I made today into the shower to test.
I noticed right away it didn't lather like the test piece I washed my hands with and then I washed my face with it. Immediately after rinsing, my skin started to burn. I quickly washed with another soap then jumped out of the shower and put some straight CO on my face.
My skin is red and dry, looks and feels a lot like wind burn. At first I though it was the FO/EO blend then I realized, I made two lumps today. One was made after the cook and one was made about half way through the cook, of course I grabbed the wrong one.
The rest of my skin didn't burn but it is quite dry now. I'll have to be much more careful with my test pieces for now on, this isn't something I want to do again.

Holy geez, I hope your skin will be ok. It's a fun craft we do but it's so easy to make an error and the consequences can be great. Glad it didn't get in your eyes.

Well, it seems like I might have been wrong and it was the scent after all. I zap tested all the lumps and they passed but there is a very strong taste of orange and my tongue went numb. I really hope I didn't ruin my soap and it will mellow in time.
I made a 2lb batch with .50oz orange EO and .50oz spiced cranberry FO

Wow, that must have been scary! Glad you're okay. I did see the soap and it does look like mashed potatoes!

I'm always careful to throw out the lumps of soap I take out in the middle, in case they're still alkaline. Straight down the drain.
