Yeah Good news is Its a 20 min drive so until I get a little experince I won't go to crazy.

Those kind of stores are great if you need something NOW--otherwise, you will save yourself a lot of money shopping with a reputable oil supplier.

I'm with Rubyslippers....avocado oil is a wonderful oil to add. You don't need much. Health food stores have a treasure trove of stuff you can use in soap making...especially at the beginning of your soaping adventures. Soon, you will be "buying in bulk." You can find coconut oil and palm oil as well. Look for the organic shortening...that will be pure palm oil and perfectly fine for soap. Except it is pretty pricey to buy this way. The whitest soap I make comes from the health food shortening and their coconut oil plus the extra light olive oil I get at Costco. The essential oils are good too...only problem there is that the bottles are so tiny and you need usually more than one bottle for even a one lb. batch of soap.

That is wonderful... I wish I had a place like that nearby. It would be nice not to have to pay shipping, especially when I just need one thing.

another good thing at a health food store-FULLER"S EARTH-it makes the best gardener's and mechanic's hand soap. just add 1-2 TBSP at the end of trace just before you pour. i like it MUCH better than pumice. less harsh and kinda looks like dirt!

may i suggest if you buy oils like sunflower seed and safflower, get the HIGH OLEIC-much less likely to get DOS.

DITTO on the avacado oil, too! :D

I was wondering about avocado oil. I saw it on the shelf at our HF store here and wondered if it would be good in soap. Must pick some up and give it a try. Wisconsin winter (so cold and dry!) is on the way so I am trying to come up with ideas for skin saving soap!

I actually pay LESS with some local stores than if I ordered online and had to pay shipping along with product. So I wouldnt neccesarily say you would save yourself alot of money shopping with a reputable oil supplier. I pay less per lb. for some oils than I ever would online. So, bottom line is, look around and do your research.
