I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, or if there is a right place to ask this on this forum but here I go. I'm hoping to get back into making perfumes and lip balms after having stopped for years. Long story short, I want to make solid perfume, not alcohol or water based due to a certain alcoholic in my family stealing my vodka, etc, let's just stop there. Anyway. I've only ever used EOs in my perfumes and lip balms and I am hesitant about the idea of using FOs in perfume bars. Does anyone have any experience with this. I tend to hoard my EOs for fear I will use them up wantonly.

first off - don't hoard your EOs as some have a limited shelf life. better to use and enjoy them then waste them!

FOs can certainly be used in solid perfumes. You will need to ensure they are safe for a LEAVE ON product (aka "lotion safe"). Most of the FOs that soap and B&B suppliers carry are but it's best to check (for soap, they NEED only be safe for a wash off product)

Thank you. Just checked my newly arrived FOs and they are all lotion safe. This is good. I can make perfume sooner than I can soap since I have all of the supplies in my possession.

I know hoarding my EOs is silly. patchouli went bad recently, though in my defense I forgot I had it and it would have to be several years old; once my soap oils arrive my EOs will be used for much more than my diffusers. Maybe... Need to use my EOs, must put them to good use. Ha. Soap oils will arrive soon.

patchouli should not go bad - the older it is the more rich and complex - aged patch is treasured... if it went bad then something funny is going on.

yes, lip balms are different - you cannot use (most) regular FOs in lip balms!

Tab might be a good person to ask about the flavor oils I know shes been doing research in the past months on those ( well I think at least lol)

Patchouli was definitely rancid. I think something may have gotten into the container, not sure. I like patcouli, this is the first time I've come across a container that smelled like that to me.

I'll look into flavour oils. Probably use EOs as before but it';; be nice to try something different.
