I live in Alabama in the US, where college football is practically a religion. I've making soaps in popular team colors - blue and orange (Auburn), red and white (Alabama), red and black (U of Georgia). Anybody done this? Is this something people like? I'm going to be selling soap at a few fundraisers, and I'm planning on having a little section dedicated to these football colored soaps, done in gender-neutral scents.

i've thought about doing this also as I live in Michigan so I have maze and blue for Michigan and green and white for Michigan State. But I was unsure what to call the soaps since most of the schools are licensed and I cannot use their names on my soaps.

I'm not going to name the soaps after teams, b/c the colors could represent multiple teams across different sports. If I do red & blue, it could be Ole Miss, but it could also be the local high school team. I think I might name the line "Sports Suds" or something.

I think that's a great idea.

Have you thought about maybe stamping the mascot name into them? Crimson Tide, Tigers. etc...

Rather than the name, I'd probably do the mascot, b/c a tiger, a bulldog, an elephant, etc stamp could have multiple applications.

The fundraiser is for a dog rescue, so I'm using the Milky Way pawprint tray. They are super cute! I figure that football may be a way to get more men to buy soap. I did Auburn (blue and orange) with MW's Kentish Rain.

That's where labeling is your friend. One man's Ole' Miss is another's New England Patriots. I have no shame.

We southerners do love our SEC! I come from a family that bleeds Bear Bryant Houndstooth and married into a bunch of War-damned Eagles. Ended up with a son who is an Ole Miss Rebel. There is an easy tiger strip pouring technique that you could do in purple and yellow for LSU or Orange and Blue for Auburn. And let's face it, you could wrap dog poo in a purple and an LSU fan would buy it. (Just kidding Susie and other "ragin cajuns.")

Ooh, the tiger stripe is a great idea!

I've looked at some of those peacock swirls and thought that if you did it in black and white it would look a lot like houndstooth....

As long as the mixture is emulsified, then yes. But that's the kind of thing you learn to recognize with lots of batches! I am going to try this, and I will do a smaller batch so if it goes wrong, not a huge loss.

Man, if I could actually get black-and-white houndstooth soap I could sell it for $10 a bar, I bet!

Yeah that would work. I was just wondering if you can find a stamp that looks like the mascot. And is there a mascot for the Crimson Tide? You'll have to pardon me. I'm from Texas. Lots of times we don't even remember there are other states, much less the mascots of their teams. :)

The Crimson Tide is an elephant. Doesn't everybody know that? ;)

Seriously, I am soooo uninterested in football, and it's just crazy here this time of year.

My sister is a U of Georgia fan, and her husband was an Auburn fan. I used to say they were in a "mixed marriage".

I made black and gold MP soaps for Saints fans scented with BB's Oatmeal Stout. I called them Who Dat and got a cease and desist order from some bum who claimed he "owned" the term "who dat." I looked into it and it turns out either 1) nobody owns the phrase or 2) nobody knows who owns it. But I took them off Etsy anyway.
Just look out for copyrighted material or greedy chumps who want to copyright material, is all I'm saying.

Well if I ignore the fact that those aren't Cowboys soaps, those look really nice.:p

Good point on the copyright.

Pfft, Cowboys. :) I'm only being dismissive because the Saints are having such a rough season a friend begged me not to root for the Cowboys because they'll start losing! lol.

Haha, one of my sons won't watch the games anymore. He says every time he does they lose. :p

Saints are winning right now. Get ready for a run on that soap!!!
