I just bought some aloe juice to use in place of water for some soap I'll be making for my mom for Mother's Day.

The aloe juice contains the following extra ingredients with descriptions:

- Citric acid (a pH stabilizer)
- Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate (Food Grade Preservatives)

Anyone know if, generally speaking, these added ingredients pose any obvious problems to the soap or its effects on skin?

I reacall hearing some where that citric acid can open hair folicoles like the "sun in" hair stuff to make your hair blonde, which is damaging over time......

Here it is on wikipedia:

Citric acid can be used in shampoo to wash out wax and coloring from the hair. It is notably used in the product "Sun-in" for bleaching, but is generally not recommended due to the amount of damage it causes.

Here's another one:

Citric acid is a common ingredient in skin masks and some lotions. Vitamin C in general is thought an antioxidant that can help refresh skin and reduce the look of aging by promoting new skin growth and destroying free radicals. Too much exposure to citric acid can cause mild skin irritation, and it may be a good idea not to use skin products containing it if you have sensitive skin.

But I suppose anything can be irritating depending on the person! :) And people are probably not using it in their hair, and it is probably not in high consentrations. People use bath bombs without issue.
