I am just getting into making bath salts. Most of the recipes I have seen call for EO but I have seen some on here for FO. What is the advantage of FO over EO? Does smell last longer in one than the other?

I haven't made bath salts in a long while. I'd say depending on the type of EO or FO you use, one really doesn't have the edge over the other. You will want to look up the IFRA for anything you want to put into the bath salts though as not all FOs and EOs are skin+ safe. I'd definitely advise you be careful with the minty types of each and avoid anything that is a spice.

I believe bath salts are IFRA category 9, and any reputable supplier of skin-safe fragrances should have the IFRA available on the product website or upon request. You can also look up the IFRA of different EOs. As for how long fragrances last or how strong they are, there isn't a great substitute for reading reviews or just trying things and then reviewing them yourself.
The advantage of a FO is that you can get some skin-safe fragrance results that you could not get using EOs (cinnamon in particular, but there are a number of EOs that are hazardous to skin). Some EOs may have health benefits, make the user feel better about it being more natural or plant-derived, or simply be the fragrance that you want.

The same compounds found in cinnamon can also be found in cinnamon-spiced FOs, though likely less of it than from the EO. Even with spicy FO's, it's advised you use as little as possible and with a product like bath salts, it would have to be treated like they would bath bombs.
