Hello all. I have a beginner question. Do you use fixative for the scent in your liquid soap? If you do, what fixative do you use? If you don't, how do you make the scent of your liquid soap last longer? I have been using essential oils like Lavender, Tea tree and Rosemary, my three favourites. And they, either mixed or on their own, will start to fade after 2 weeks. Should I change to fragrance oil? WIll they last longer, or fade too? I want to start gifting my soap to people and I am worried that they will be disappointed with the fading scent.

Thanks so much for your help. If this question has been asked before, please you could also direct me to the thread that I probably missed when I tried searching for it before.

Thank you so much for your answer and tips @lsg . Yes I thnk I should. It's just that I don't make much soap. Usually just small batches so I don't use a blend of EOs. I usually just use one EO I feel like using for that soap. And both for my LS and bar soaps, the scent never lingers more than a couple of weeks. I usually use only the minimum dosage, 2-3% for bar soaps, dan 1-2% for LS.

Somebody has just told me to use fixative, but I have not found much information on this, on fixative to use for soaps yet. I will keep looking. :D

I have not tried this product yet, but Paris Fragrances makes a perfume fixative that can be used in soap and other products. It’s available on Amazon. https://a.co/d/bDmPyCs

I don’t know how natural you are trying to keep your soap—it is a synthetic product. But I have not heard of of a kaolin clay equivalent for liquid products.

@LiminalVeil Thank you for the lead. I am following anything. I just found in my local marketplace a product from Lubrizol. When I asked the seller, they claimed it is natural, and that it can be used both for liquid and bar soap. They call their product Lubrizol Natural Fixative. I could not get anymore info from the seller, but I do get a COA. From the material mentioned in the COA, I did some googling and found this info:

Naturally-derived humectant that delivers a lubricious, emollient feel
Glucam™ P-20 humectant is a naturally-derived, 100% active, propoxylated methyl glucose ether. It is one of the few naturally-derived cosmetic fluids that are miscible with water, alcohols, organic esters, and oils. In any product, it delivers humectancy with a lubricious, emollient feel. In alcohol-based systems Glucam P-20 humectant reduces the stinging effect alcohol has on skin. Equally important in fragrance containing formulations, it acts as a fixative by subduing volatilization of the "high notes". The light color and low odor of Glucam P-20 humectant will not interfere with the mood the fragrance is trying to communicate. It is recommended for use in hair care and skin care products.
