I've not soaped much in the last couple years, ever since my local grocery stopped carrying my preferred brand of lard and I started having issues using a different brand.

I finally located the right lard and got around to making a simple, naked soap for family with sensitive skin. Just lard, coconut and aloe juice. I put some chia seeds on top just to fancy it up, wish I wouldn't have.

This soap set up and gelled quickly, got very hard within 5 hours. It was still warm when I cut it but any longer and it may have cracked.
Its just perfect. The other brand lard would take 24-48 hours before I could cut and it would still be soft. I also had DOS with it.

Now to make some proper soap for more family.

The soaps look really nice. I happen to like plain no color soaps but as we know my customers do not. The seeds look okay and this is coming from one that never puts stuff on the outside. They did add a touch of color

What brand do you use and which one caused DOS? I am sure you remember I have issues with DOS and lard. The soaps look really nice. I happen to like plain no color soaps but as we know my customers do not.

I use armour, its what I've used from the beginning and its what was in the sample I sent you.
The problem brand is morrell snow cap. My last batch got dos within 6 weeks and stayed soft.

I'm making less colorful soap as time goes on. Usually white with one or two light colors in a swirl.
Colorful is pretty but I just wasn't reaching for them as often, neither was DH.

These just look perfect! I like the subtle touch the chia gives to the white soap.. it's so elegant! Weird enough the white color makes me crave ice cream[emoji848] maybe I'm just hungry.. (I am now, anyway)[emoji28]

love solid colored soaps esp white ones!! the seeds add the just the right amount of color. I seem to be gravitating towards the solid colors or soaps with just a touch of color
I too am looking forward to seeing your "proper" soaps

Won't the chia seeds swell up in soap? They swell up in drinks when left to sit awhile.

I mean even though your soap hardened quickly and they still look firm, once the soap gets wet, I would expect them to start swelling and filling with water and start looking like little jelly fish.
