EDIT: Well, this got the old pine tar juices flowing and I made up a batch myself of 20% pine tar. Using odds and ends on hand I ended up with a little babassu, olive, castor, coconut, palm and pine tar. Hope my coconut arrives soon as I'm now down to about 20 grams. Stir, stir, stir for about two minutes before getting bored and grabbed the stick blender. Another 30-45 seconds and into the mold and in the oven. Mysterious far far eastern sometimes soaping assistant and mother of my children is going to be overjoyed when she comes home and smells the pine tar batch in the oven. Pine tar today, pumpkin and mincemeat tomorrow!

Yeah it's great. Worked well on DH's eczema and my nasty feet. I actually like the smell also.

Denis: I had the same thing. Everything I read said it would trace fast so I started hand mixing. After 5 min grabbed the SB and had it traced in another few minutes.

Thats the same brand of pine tar I used to use on my horses. The white and purple can. I think I've used bickmore's too, but usually the white and purple can.

I can't wait to try pine tar soap myself... I just happened to watch the soaping 101 pine tar video the other day. I got into handmade soap for my eczema and psoriasis. It was the final straw when I became allergic to my hypoallergenic soap and lotion. At that point I was slathering myself up with steroids twice a day from the dermatologist, and started using their recommended (and crazy expensive!) body wash and moisturizer. I heard from other sufferers about handmade CP soap and started buying the no fragrance ones from Chagrin Valley. I also did a test moisturizing one leg with straight coconut oil and the other with the dermatologist recommended cream. After the initial application, coconut oil leg felt dry again and cream leg moisturized. After a week, coconut oil leg felt moisturized BEFORE application while cream leg felt dry. Have been using CP soap and homemade butters and oils since, and rarely need to use the steroid!

Might be something to do with how it would then work as a soap in general. I also used 45% OO and 10% Pine Tar with CO and palm making up the balance.

I wouldn't actually say that it was overly quick to trace, but that it goes through the various thicknesses VERY quickly. Light trace in a reasonable time, gave it another couple of mixer bursts and then poured it - it was then so thick that it was standing in the mold and I have very uneven tops to it.

Great soap, though.
