Hi Lindy,

I use 1/4 cup of borax to a gallon of finished soap. My shower gels are anything but drying. Hope that gives you something to work off from. For the soap you made what % of oil was coconut? As for your foam on top I get a little but not very much. Sometimes if I warm the soap it will work its way back in. The little I get I just scoop it off. Maybe caused from stirring to hard when you dilute the paste. I do mine in a crock pot now. I just set it on warm and stir every now and then. Its not fast but works good and takes little effort.

That's fantastic Lindy!

I'm making liquid soaps too ..... you know.. buy a soap base and add stuff.. LOL!!! nothing fancy like this! YGG!!

Chrissy - thanks for that info - it must be just the combo I did...hmmm

artisan soaps - thank you - it is working fantastic as dish soap so I'm really pleased about that.....

lovethyscent - it really is an adventure - I SF'd at 5%, I still have 2 1/2 lbs of paste left so I'm going to play with it and see what it does without the glycerin, alcohol and borax.... 8)

Bruce I made about 2 litres of LS and I used 12 tbsp of Borax - I really do think I put too much in. The CO was ~ 51% of the total oils, the other oils were OO 10 oz, Castor 10 oz & Jojoba 3 oz - the CO was 24 oz. Thanks for your help with this....

KSL - thank you!

I'm new to this forum and soapmaking, so of course, I have a question.
Does anyone know where I would be able to find KOH in my area?? I've asked around, but no one seems to know.

You can try AAA chemicals. Swifty told me about them and they have really great prices. The stuff also comes in handy reusable containers.

Imblebee: Is that a place that I can go to here or is it online? I forgot to put in the question that I'm hoping to be able to avoid shipping fees. I guess I'm just cheap, but I'd rather just drive an get what I need. I should have said that in my original question (duh! sorry).

Thank you for answering though! I'm going to google them and see what they have.

Hi Lindy, just woundering how you are doing with your liquid soap? I have made some and found that the superfat will sit on top and when its warmer the rest of it is clear and when its in a cooler place its cloudy.
from looking at your first attempt it seem there is three different shades one is where it is clearing up and would have kept doing so if left and the lighter shade on top is the supperfat.
I am no means an expert, but am very much interested in liquid soap, my only problem is I have sooo much of it I cant justify making anymore for a while

Also meant to add, from what i have read red turkey oil for superfatting and fruity eo's do better than others,
the only reason i havent used the red turkey oil is because i cant get it where i am.
Also I found that the longer i left it the better it was, too much cococnut makes for a thin LS. I did not find the coconut drying in ls as i did in cp.

Red wine turns ls black

Honey went hotter in my ls than it did in cp

I add the paste to hot water keeping it hot for it to dilute as it cools it get a little thicker, adding more hot water if needed

If i want shower gel i add less water, any extra water needed a little at a time

Stirring or not stirring i get bubbles that disapear into soap as it sits

I take my ls past trace wrap it up keep it warm and it does everything else by its self,I dont stir or watch it for hours i just leave it over night.

in the past when its got too cold i just added more heat

Hope this helps

I just got Catherines Book and I am a bit confused. Why is it so important that liquid soap is clear ?

I mean most liquid soap in shops isn't clear ? Some of it is milky ?

I also am not sure about the alcohol method. Alcohol evaporates pretty quick ? And I have a gas cooker, so I might give that miss.

I am loking forward to making liquid soap. My family really misses shower gel. (I am too evil to buy any since I started making soap)

Someone here uses a crockpot to do liquid soap. You can do it that way if you have a gas stove.

Maybe they will post where that thread is or you might try a search.

Booboo it turned out really well! I bought some "foamer" style soap dispensers and are they ever fantastic! You can leave your Liquid Soap quite thin and it dispenses it as foam - love it.... Thank you for asking....
