Does this recipe sound feasible for a base recipe? I will be adding glycerine, SL, essential oils, colors. Doing HP. Here goes: Lard 60%, OO 10%, Ccoconut oil 25%, Soy 5%. Water 30.400 oz, Lye 11.466 oz. 38& water percentage.
What is the max oils I may add at the end with my frags etc if I wanted any extra superfatting without messing up my batch because I will be using herbs and spices for coloring infused into the extra oils. Or am I supposed to take out some of the oils out of my 10% (above in the oil totals) for ex if I wanted to use OO for my infusion; and do I cook the recipe without it so I can add it at the end? I am screwed trying to remember about using superfatting oils for infusions and if I'm supposed to weigh them out separately other than my original 10% OO in oil totals. ??? It is hard soaping with permanent brain damage lol. I have post it notes all over my house to remember minor things. I'm sorry if I've already asked this before. My rememberer is broken... :(

I have to use up a big amount of soy oil that I ordered, or else I wouldn't even bother with the soy.

Lord help me. I forgot to add my castor. Hold on a minute yall for new percentages. I am so so sorry. I can't wait until we can have brain transplants. :(

OK. Let's try this again. Lard 60%, OO 8%, Coconut oil 76 deg 25%, Soy oil 5%, castor 2%. Water 30.4 oz, Lye 11.4 oz, frag 5 oz. Tot oil wt 80 oz. Soap wt before hp cook 7.929 lbs. I sure hope this fits in my crock. Will be the most lye I've had to use ever in one batch. Used soapcalc.

Please help me.

I wasn't joking about being brain damaged. I honestly am. If I maybe offended someone, I didn't mean to and I'm sorry. Maybe I wore out my welcome already. Wanting to soap tonight and I was just asking.

Your recipe will certainly work. If you are trying to use up some soy you could up the soy. I would do 40% lard, 25% olive oil, 20% coconut oil, 10% soy, 5% castor. 5% superfat with full water. I personally do not feel superfat needs to be anymore than 5%, but then I hate oily feeling soap. If your infused oils are OO just add them into your total amount of oils after straining out any plant material. 11 lbs of soap is a lot and it would not fit in any of my large crockpots. I find 60 oz of oils with full water is the most that will fit in my crockpots. I assumed you were telling the truth when you mentioned stick notes everywhere. My sis even puts stickies on her steering wheel!! She really does not have any diagnosed brain damage but her memory sucks big time :). I would suggest printing out your recipe in soap calc and cross off each oil as you put it in the pot. I do that because I get distracted...Good luck to you and please do not feel like you have worn out your welcome. This is a great forum to be a member of

Oh thank you thank you thank you sincerely for taking the time to help me. I appreciate it more than you know. I will definitely try your percentages you gave me. I have post its in my car too ;) I'm going to start my soaping now. I put in the calc 112 oz and it would've made way too much lol.

Have your infusions just be a part of the OO. I wouldn't worry about adding superfats after the cook unless you're trying to have a specific oil be the superfat.

And cmzaha's suggestions for checking off oils as you add them is a good one! As is the size of the batch. Another idea: if you're going to be using the same recipe over and over, then get one of those plastic sheet protectors to put your recipe in and mark off the oils with a dry erase marker. Then you can just wipe the plastic clean once you're done and reuse the same page again next time. :)

Putting them in sheet proctors is a great idea!! Never thought of it

I used to use a lot of sticky notes, now I have a sticky note app in my phone where I put them all lol. For me its to help with 'brain fog' from chronic illness.

What us the soap for? Face or body? In facial soap I do not use any coconut but I do bump my castor up to 10% maybe even more depending on the rest of the recipe. Otherwise go ahead with your recipe.

Infuse the spices into the oil you figure as part of your basic recipe. Then just substitute colored oils for the OO or soybean oil.

I have stopped using stickies, I kept losing them. Now EVERYTHING goes into a notebook with a page for each day. My memory sucks.

Is there a reason you are doing an 80 oz recipe if you aren't sure it will fit in your crockpot? If you are doing HP, you do not want your crockpot full to the tip top.

Personally, I do not like to use more than 20% coconut. some people find that drying. Is there a reason you want to use 25%? Of course, if you have done that before and liked it, then just ignore me. :)

I'm not sure how much soap making experience you have, but your posts felt a bit frantic and inexperienced to me. I would strongly recommend a smaller batch, say 2 lbs.

If her crock pot is one of the large pots I find 32 oz does not work well. It is better to fit the batch to the pot to get an even cook, I find 50 oz of oils works well in a large pot.

My large crock holds 160 oz of liquid but that is filled to the top, so I do not go over 64 oz of oil which will give 101 oz of soap batter. I just feel that is close enough to the top in case the batter decides to expand.

Thank you so much for yalls' help. I have a big crockpot and wasn't sure how many % oils I should use. I will do as you recommended and make sure I don't go over 64 oz oils. I really needed to know that and couldn't find a formula to figure that out. Thank you thank you thank you!
My molds can handle it because I use big wood molds.

I surely will. Soaping tonight, hopefully. I got some new fragrances in from Bitter Creek and they smell AHHMAZING! I got Honeysuckle Peach, Hot Chocolate, Fresh Brewed Coffee, Cherry, Lemon Icebox Cake, Gardenia, Patchouli, and a free sniffie of A Northwoods Christmas. I love these scents because they didn't come here smelling like alcohol or cheap perfume. I got some recently that smelled exactly like alcohol and it made me so sad because I messed up ordering 16oz of each and can't return em. Live and learn I guess. I'm so excited to make Chocolate Covered Cherry and use my patchouli as a base scent for other scents but will have to do research to find out how much of each smell to use lol. Would rather be soaping instead of researching :(
