My partner does knitting and spinning and I have already threatened to steal some of his tussah silk for making soap. I don't think he was amused, lol. So many ideas, and must be patient with it all! (Patience, how long does that take?)

As long as we have time, we will do all that we desire :) ....but waiting is always the hard part

OK, so I'm confused about the "chopping it up" comments. I use Tussah Noil Silk fibre in all my soaps, but what I use is of a cotton ball consistency...I just pull out the amount I want for a batch and then pull the fibers apart with my fingers until it's "spider-webby" and put it in my water before I add the lye. It just kind of sits there at first, but dissolves completely after a few good stirs while the lye-water is cooling down.

I do the same thing. But what some soapers do is take 100% silk fabric, pull the threads apart and place those threads cut up & pulled apart into their lye water.

I bought a big bag of raw silk fibers several years ago. I put it in all my cp soap. It only takes a pinch.

It also depends on how your silk is sent to you. I've ordered from LookChina and it comes in thin braids that I cut up very small. Have also ordered from Soap Making Resource, and that comes in cotton ball consistency, you can just pull off what you need. Either one is fine, as is silk fiber.

My mistake with my first time using silk fiber was putting it into a lye/aloe juice solution that I had frozen the aloe juice. The solution never got hot enough to melt the fibers. I learned from that mistake and now I don't freeze any of my liquids. I just put in my milks, or juices at trace and use water for my lye/water solutions.
