Sounds interesting, and something else to put on my "To Try" list, thank you.
As long as we have time, we will do all that we desire ....but waiting is always the hard part :yawn:My partner does knitting and spinning and I have already threatened to steal some of his tussah silk for making soap. I don't think he was amused, lol. So many ideas, and must be patient with it all! (Patience, how long does that take?)
OK, so I'm confused about the "chopping it up" comments. I use Tussah Noil Silk fibre in all my soaps, but what I use is of a cotton ball consistency...I just pull out the amount I want for a batch and then pull the fibers apart with my fingers until it's "spider-webby" and put it in my water before I add the lye. It just kind of sits there at first, but dissolves completely after a few good stirs while the lye-water is cooling down.
I do the same thing. But what some soapers do is take 100% silk fabric, pull the threads apart and place those threads cut up & pulled apart into their lye water.
