EOs leak out?!

Hey all,
This has only happened to me twice, but I'm hoping to figure out the cause so it never happens again. I use EOs to fragrance (too sensitive to most FOs), and I've now twice found my logs coated with EO when I unmold, like the soap is kicking it out. Ended up with 'underscented' bars. Any ideas as to why this might happen? I soap at about 38C (it may have been a little cooler for the last one that expelled the EO), mix in my EO at light trace, and usually pour at medium trace, and have it go through gel stage.

This happened to me for the first time this week. The only difference in my recipe was:
1. the Lavender EO was from a supplier I had never used before,
2. I soaped using sheep milk.
Are you using EO's from a new or different supplier? Did your EO seem difficult to incorporate into the soap batter, because mine was- it took more s/b than normal to finally get everything blended together.

It has only ever happened to me when the soap has overheated. :wink:

yeah, the EO (rosemary) was from a different supplier (but I didn't have a hard time incorporating it), and it heated up a bit more than usual batches, although I didn't think it was too hot. Is it the extra heat that could have caused it? I'm thinking I will insulate less next time...

Overheating.

If it happens again, wait a day or two to unmold. Sometimes the EO will reincorporate back in.

Looking at my notes - lye was 89F and oils 93F - my normal temps for milk soaps. Perhaps the sugar in the sheep milk caused it to overheat. I don't think I overinsulated and I also didn't notice it being too hot in the mold. :? But then I must have done something wrong for this to have happened.
