I have added some botanicals to one of my slurries and I do think they help anchor scents. I used a chai tea and ground it up in the coffee grinder. It helped the orange EO stick but it contains some really hard spices, eg clove, and the soap is a bit scrubby.I made sure to have all the oils for that blend so I can make a lemon soap! Haven't done it yet.
I've used one slurry per your directions so far. For a 16 oz batch, I added 1/2 oz castor oil to the slurry which came to 3% castor for the batch. So I just changed my recipe to include 3% castor oil and I put it all in the slurry.
Do you put botanicals in all your slurries? I can't think of botanicals to go in all my soaps. Clay and castor oil are easy.
Like you, I haven’t come up with other botanicals to use. Lavender is easy, someone here recommended using a coffee grinder to pulverize the lavender. I need to try that in some soap for a friend who loves lavender. Used whole, lavender buds look like mouse poo so grinding is definitely a good idea.
Has anyone used calendula? It is what I have in hand and am considering trying. Any other recommendations?
