I was wondering if anyone had any input on this situation. I made an emulsified scrub recipe off of Swift's site. It made 3 jars worth. One jar has been in my shower for 4 months. I've used it 4 or 5 times. I just noticed that some oils are starting to separate out, but only in the jar that's in the shower. The unopened jars (one of which I just opened) are fine. (And it's definitely oils, not water, that are in separating out). Any thoughts? Here's the recipe:

25% shea butter
10% emulsifier (I think I used e-wax (don't have my notes in front of me)
5% C12-15 alkyl benzoate
10% cetyl alcohol
20% fractionated coconut oil
20% apricot kernel oil
2% cyclomethicone
2% dimethicone
2% fragrance oil
1% Vitamin E
1% Phenonip (this is the only thing I've ever used Phenonip for - I'm not sure why it's preferred for this recipe, rather than plain old Germall Plus.)

125% to 150% sugar

Thanks for your thoughts!!

Strangely enough it is the water from the shower that is causing it. The oils float on top of water so over time you have gotten water from your shower into the jar. At least that would be my best guess...

Cheers
