Has anyone had any discoloration issues using dried lavender buds? I've picked lavender from my yard and dried it out for a very long time prior to using in soap. My first time ever adding it to a plain white soap and it looked great. The few times I've done it since, and I get discoloration right around the buds. I'll post a pic soon.

Is there a trick to using them without this happening? It's one of my biggest hits with friends and family but I'd like to figure out what is causing the weird color.

See how it's sort of pinkish around some of the buds?

I used lavender buds in one of my soaps and they turned brown and don't look very appealing in my soap at all. In fact, the buds hurt my skin when I try to use that soap too. I don't know if there's anything you can do to prevent it from browning. I think that's just what happens to organic matter over time.

I'm afraid that's what you'll get from using lavendar buds though you can try them on top. You'll still sometimes get browning around them or where they fall off. The only plant I know of that performs perfectly inside a soap is calendula. The petals stay nice and yellow.

That looks pretty normal for lavender buds to me. I did do an HP batch where I added the buds with the SF & EO after the cook, and they didn't bleed color like in CP.

I agree, looks normal to me as well. I tried them once and thought they looked like mouse droppings and they were scratchy so never used them again.

Sorry... adding lavender into soap will always turn brown. Its best to add it to the top of your soap if you want the color to hang around.

Back in the day we use to call Lavender soap with buds in it "Bug Soap" Because once the buds turn black/brown in the soap it looks like little bugs.. lol

Not being mean.. just saying...
