I am looking for Lavender oil and came across some decent prices when bought in bulk but in the MSDS it says:

Definition/Botanical Origin: The volatile oil obtained by steam distillation of the freshly cut flowering tops of the herb Lavandula angustifolia P. Miller (Fam. Labitae), blended/adjusted to defined composition (esters as linalyl acetate 40-42%)

It is advertised as 100% essential oil and seems like a reputable store but I'm confused by the 'blended/adjusted' bit. Doesn't this mean it isn't pure?

Any help much appreciated!

Okay, so after reading even more about it, it seems like this means this is cut with other products? (If someone could let me know if I'm right on this that would be great). But also does this mean it will act differently in my CP soap? Or should I post this question in CP forum specifically?

Essentially I don't want to pay outrageous prices for EO but I don't want to put anything that is sub-standard or downright crap in my soap. :)

Lavender 40/42 is a "standardized" lavender that has a consistent scent and is used mainly for fragrancing purposes.

Different batches of lavender EO are blended to get the linalyl acetate content at 40-42%. This is the chemical compound that gives lavender EO its characteristic scent. It is my understanding that pure linalyl acetate can be added to adjust the linalyl acetate content as well.

If you're using lavender EO for scent, this product is fine -- it is not "crap" or "sub-standard". If you're using lavender EO for healing purposes, however, most people would not choose this product.

Wow, thank you for the brilliant reply. And you've given me an 'aha' moment as I've seen elsewhere Lavender described as 40/42 and I hadn't put it together that it has to do with the 40-42% I just read about! :p

Thanks for taking the time to write that for me.
