HI! I was wondering if anyone knows what this white ring could be around the black part of my soap. I used black oxide for the black. This soap has been curing for about 3 weeks. I noticed the white ring about 2 weeks into cure. Any information would be apprecited :)

thanks

hey artisan thanks for your help on this.

I just basically poured the soap that was colored with black oxide into the soap that was colored with the ultramarine purple (already in the mold). I didnt physically swirl it, but I left it as is; and I see that where the two colors meet is where the ring as...as well as within the black.

I would be very interesting if there are other soapers out there who have experienced this. :D

don't know for sure-could it be a chemical reaction from adding the black to the other color at different temps? Where's our experts-they're great!

was the black completely mixed, or was there still white in tehre? I see that sometimes if I don't totally mix an oxide in well enough before i swirl it.

Is it zappy? If not, I'm guessing it may be the oxide reacting somewhat to the lye-- perhaps an impurity in it?

I had something similar happen with a green dye-- I have a nice green, then a mottled green/yellow/white look going on, then the white soap. It's not what I wanted, but it does look very cool, and it's nice soap.

-Nope. It's not zappy. I just tasted a piece of it..lol...it didnt sting.

-the black oxide was completely mixed in the soap. I only colored a small part of the soap with the black oxide and it was super duper black. lol

There's a mystery going on with it. lol I think i'm going to make the soap again and see if it happens again.

thanks again everyone for your input :D
