Does anyone here make their own silicone molds for CP soap?

I have done a few, mostly for embeds but also column and slab molds.
A tip would be to keep in mind that the silicone will take the texture of whatever it touches. So when making a column mold, for example or the slab mold, I taped the inside of the box and the inside on the car board cylinder with shipping tape, just so that the outside of the mold would have a glossy finish instead of a textured feel.

You also need to be mindful of air bubbles and of the silicone working time. Some set up quickly and others give you more time.

I have done it in the past using toys to pour the silicone around the outside of the toy. I only did this to make a mold for soap for the grandkids. IMO, it is certainly not cost effective.

It is great for doing as lsg mentioned if you want to make a special single cavity mold but is certainly not cost-effective to make larger molds and is quite tricky to work with, especially in large sizes. Our business was making formliners (for walls) that we poured up to 4'x10' molds out of urethane while it was not silicone it was similar and believe me it was not a walk in the park to work with. Folks that make videos and do this regularly make it look easy but it is not and it is very expensive. This is why so many silicone molds come out of China.

I was gifted a 5 lb silicone mold making kit. I wouldn't have attempted it otherwise. When I first discovered that such a product existed I thought "Ooh, that's cool." But logic prevailed since I know I'm not artsy, and I really have no reason to make my own mold other than for the sake of making my own mold, and decided not to spend the money. But when one was offered up, I thought "why not?"

This community inspires me to try stuff. I have some roving coming tomorrow so I can try my hand at felting thanks to another thread.....

I’ve made my own silicone mats that I cut and put inside individual cavity molds. To do this you need to make the impression on sulphur free clay then pour the silicone over it thinly. They last for years of use - despite hard scrubbing with a toothbrush and bleach.
