whats the difference between CP soap and castile soap?

CP describes the method: cold pour (mix lye solution and oils intel emulsified and pour into mold).

Castile is a recipe or formula: 100% olive oil soaps.

You don't have to use olive oil in CP soaps, there are other recipes that don't include it, but most people do. I think most people CP their castile soap, but you can also hot process soaps in a crock pot.

You lost me.

CP is a PROCESS. Like baking, or steaming.

Castile is a recipe. It's like what you can do with your batter if cooking - you can bake it or steam it.

You can CP olive oil soaps. You can HP olive oil soaps. There are some other processes/methods that are hybrids of CP and HP as well.

You can CP (or HP) just about any soap recipe.

Which do you ladys think is easier for a first timer, CP or HP?

I am not sure if one is easier than the other. I started w/ HP. I thought I was too impatient for CP. Now I LOVE CP and don't mind the wait. I do both methods.... depends on the situation. If I need soap SOON, I HP it. If I am doing seaweed soap, I HP it because it is added after the cook and I feel like it maintains its benefits more that way (don't know if there is any truth to that or not).

CP soap can be any recipe you like such as 100% olive oil (castile) or 100% coconut oil, or a mixture of olive, coconut, palm and grapeseed etc.... The recipe can be almost anything. CP is just the method by which you turn the oils into soap

Yes. olive oil ONLY makes castile soap - you can use any grade of olive oil.

thank you so much!! If I could ask you a couple more questions that you might know...
Can you pour the soap directly into a shaped mold to make littler soaps (stars, hearts, etc) or does it have to go into a big squared one?

Also, when it comes out of hibernating for 24 hours do you take it out and sit out on a cookie sheet to dry for 4-6 weeks?

Yes, you got it now! castile is a type of soap that is all olive oil with no other oils. It can be made using the cp process.

I wouldn't set your soaps to cure on a cookie sheet. You want to avoid metal.

Sure, you can use any mold you wish. I personally like my wooden molds lined with freezer paper but use any mold you like and make sure it is suitable for CP soap....eg: no aluminum....silicone is nice to work with

I usually allow my soaps to sit for 48 hours minimum since some of my soaps are on the softer side at first. Then I have plastic stacking racks that I use to cure the soaps for 4-6 weeks.

Castile will need to cure for 4-6 months. It is a real patience tester!

Silicone molds are the best, the soap comes out easily. Silicone molds are the Wilton cake molds, they make shaped ones too.

I put freezer paper on my cookie sheets to dry my soaps.

oh okay i just googled the wilton cake molds and was wondering about that. so you dont use the silver shaped ones? And you can just sit them out on the covered cookie sheets...

So are supposed to measure in ounces or in pounds because i only see people on youtube measuring in ounces but some people on here talk about things in pounds and percents????

You can get the baskets at dollar stores or Big Lots usually or even the container store online.

But for the molds, mine are wooden lined with freezer paper.
