I have been reading how interchangeable the 2 oils are and am wondering if anyone has tried replacing the CO with PKO .If you did , how did you like the soap ?

I have a lard recipe that uses OO, Lard, PKO (at 31.5%), and castor. It's a great soap with wonderful bubbly/creamy lather. The cleansing # is 19 on SoapCalc.

IrishLass :)

I don't use it much but when I do, can't really tell the difference in CP soap. Used it for the first time this weekend in Liquid Soap & it came out beautiful, clear & bubbly.

That's all I've been doing. I've been Using the Palm Kernal Flakes and no Coconut. I tried using CO last night and I have a crumbling mess! I will be posing pictures and the recipie later. I don't know what happened.......

I use both in my soaps all the time. The soap kits around me have oo pko and co as their basic soap recipe.

I havent hd any problems with them at all. No I dont just use one though.

I just bought some and thought I would start adding it with CO to up my bubbly factor. I can only handle CO to about 20%. I was going to start putting in 5%-10%. It's a PITA to get out of the tub though!

I use 8-10%,with 20-23%CO.According to soapcalc its slightly less cleansing & bubbly, slightly more on conditioning than CO.
But whether that'd translate into tolerable for those that experience the drying effect with CO,???
My goodness tho,the stuff is SO hard!! I bring it to room temp, then chip away at it with one of those heavy duty plaster spreader thingy's just to get it into manageable sized chunks!

I am sensitive to CO that is why I asked about the PKO .I made a 25% PKO 75% OO . I love it at 24 hrs old .I can't wait until it cures properly . The bubbles are out of this world and they last . I was beveling them over a sink full of water , I couldn't believe how long they lasted , after just swishing my hand around in the sink for a second or two.

I am also sensitive to higher amounts of coconut in soap. With coconut I can generally go around 10% and with PKO I can go around 15-20%. I have only been using coconut though because I can buy it at walmart.

It was surprising to me when once I got into soapmaking how many folks are allergic to CO. I think it's harder to break apart than cocoa butter. Next time I buy it am going to make sure I get it in flake form....which I wish I had know about earlier;-)

i did 1/2 pk , 1/2 coc in a batch, i love it, hubby says it isnt as bubbly, why? i though pk was more bubbly?

So Kitn, are you less sensitive to PKO?

Not sensitive at all to it . If I use a bar with this much CO my skin is itchy and tight after . Nothing with the PKO , just nice soft skin ,woot !.

Alright! Good to hear :) Might be something for my hub too.

It is such a different soap to me than the one from the same recipe with CO , bubbles galore and it leaves me with nice soft skin . Bear in mind the soap is only days old , it can only get better , right ?
