Any one have a good recipe for a cloth diaper safe diaper cream? I know there are alot of recipes out there but I'd love some advice from someone experienced. The only one I've used that I really love is CJ's BUTTer, which is probably more of a balm/butter than a cream http://www.cjsuniqueboutique.com/?page_id=99

I think a nice, basic balm with cocoa butter for barrier protection would be nice. Maybe olive oil and FCO or almond, a touch of beeswax for stability and cocoa butter. A basic lotion bar is 1/3 wax, 1/3 butter, 1/3 oils. For a balm I would lower the wax and up the oil. Just a place to start!

The 1/3rd 'rule' doesn't work with cocoa butter.
Even when using a small amount, it gets rock hard.

I've had good results with adding zinc oxide and alpha bisabolol on infants.

I make a wonderful booty balm with 11% zinc oxide for at night (we do 'sposies at night and cloth during the day), but zinc isn't cloth diaper safe. It transfers to the diapers and ruins them. For day I make a lotion bar. I just dug up my formula:

16% - .64/.32 oz - Candelilla Wax
20% - .68/.34 oz - Cocoa Butter
20% - .68/.34 oz - Shea Butter
44% - Oil (I love olive and FCO)

HTH!

Could I use beeswax (the same amount)? What is FCO?

Candelilla Wax has a higher melt point. You can't sub it straight across for beeswax. You will need more beeswax if you are using it instead of Candelilla.

Yes, to use beeswax double the wax amount and take it from the oil. For a balm instead of a bar, lower the wax and butters (especially cocoa) until you get the consistency you like. :)

I've heard some people put tea tree oil in their diaper cream. would you? I use cream at every change, is it safe?

I've done a combo of lavender & tea tree; 1 part lavender and 1 part tea tree, 0.5% of the oils combined.
It also contained alpha bisabolol and a calendula infusion.

The little boy the salve was used on had very bad diaper rashes and it prevented the rashes form turning into large blisters most of the time.
If not, the parents had to switch to a medicated cream temporarily.
