Hi,
Question every batch of soap I have made crumbles. I use tap water and instead of a stick blender I mix it with an electric drill with a paint bit on the end. Also I use a plastic bucket to mix in. I have tried to up the water, but no success. Please Please I need some help, I enjoy the process but rebatching every time is getting old.

44 oz. beef shortening
20 oz. olive oil
20 oz. coconut oil Add at Trace by Weight
12 oz. lye crystals not one cup
32 oz. cold water
117 oz. = Temps 110-115
Makes 6.5 lbs of soap

And

74 ounces olive oil
14 ounces coconut oil
24 ounces cold water
12 ounces lye crystals

Temperatures: between 90-100 degrees

BLT

What material is the paint bit made from? Aluminum will react with the lye.

Often that is the metal paint bits are made from.

have you run this thru a soap calc? I ran your second recipe thru and it shows the water being off.
Also, I know some people need to use distilled water. We are lucky, as we have spring water here, so nothing is interfering with my soap. Hope you get it figured out!
Also, it shows the values as being off...hardness shows up at 27 when recommendations are 29-54. You might want to rethink the recipe...

On your first recipe, I was wondering why the co was being added at trace? Numbers look really good on that one, although I'd decrease the water by a couple of ounces. I'd tend to agree that you might want to check the drill to see if it's aluminum or iron. Need stainless steel or plastic. Use filtered or distilled water.

Hope you get the problem worked out. I know how frustrating it is to work out a problem!

Lye is still quite active at trace. I would add your coconut right up front. The only way you can have a certain oil as your superfat is to cook the soap, then add the oil after the soap is cooked.

Agree, which is why I wondered. Was that in the recipe instructions or something? Was a reason given for doing that? Can't imagine why unless it was meant to be HP, but even in that case isn't that a lot to be adding after the cook?
