So i was dipping my apple into my peanut butter and it occured to me *drum roll please* that....
"i wonder if i can add peanut butter to my soap?"

Im sure it wouldnt add any certain quality to it, but can I? So now I'm thinking I will do a food experiment batch tomorrow, testing how certain additives effect soap and to see whether it can be done. I am going to do a layer of peanut butter soap, then a layer of molassas soap and then finaly a top layer of vanilla soy milk soap. This sounds crazy i know but I have tomorrow off too and I think i have a wild hair... :shifty:

Of course you can. You will have to find a lye calculator that has peanut butter though. Or, maybe you can use a combination of peanut oil and ghee or peanut oil and vegatable oil to get a mix that resembles the makeup of peanut butter?

Peanut butter has palm oil in it (at least Jiff does) but i will be using such a minute amount roughly 1 tablespoon, that i dont think i will have to take into account the soponification of it.... or maybe I do? This would be a question for the seasoned pros!

I wonder what the odds would be finding a lye calc with peanut butter lol?

I don't think there will be a lye calc for peanut butter. LOL

It seems to me that it should be called peanut paste rather then butter, just that the peanut is ground till so fine and smooth that it become spreadable.

Hope your experiment is good.

I watched a video well over a month ago where a lady made peanut butter soap. She was making gigantic batches. She also made a plantain soap and a mango soap. She used a commercial stick blender to blend up her batches. Looked like she had quite a soaping operation going on.

yes, you can use peanut butter in soap. no, you do not have to put it in a lye calculator. mix it in with your warmed oils and make sure it is fully incorporated. I would say stick with relatively smaller amounts of peanut butter, as it sounds like you plan to, and you may want to drop your superfat a bit to account for the extra oils.

There are recipes out on the web for peanut butter soap. Always run any recipe through a lye calculator.

That sounds awesome! Another sign that you might be addicted to soap making is that your food makes you think of soap experimenting ideas

It sort of reminds me of a friend addicted to brewing.. he once picked up a can of dog food and looked at the ingredients and said, "I could brew with this..."

LMAO! The weirdest thing I thought about putting in my soap was ground up marijuana leaves for exfoliation. It's legal here in washington so wouldnt be hard to attain and it has therapeutic qualities to it. :silent: Now whether those qualities would be passed to the soap would be a debate and I probably wouldnt be able to sell it legally even though I would have also used hemp seed oil which is totally legal.

Yeah, I think that some of the rules regarding marijuana are odd. The fact that you can use hemp seed oil in soap, but can't use the leaves is just silly.
