When I use both KOH and NaOH in a recipe I run the soap calculator two times.
One with only KOH and one with only NaOH.

The water is always the same.

Then I add the percentage of KOH and NaOH into the water and when everything is diluted I proceed as usual.

For example, if I want to make a soap with 70% KOH and 30% NaOH I run the soap calculator the first time with only KOH and I get let’s say for example 120gr of KOH.
Then I run again the soap calc with only NaOH and I get 110gr on NaOH for example.
In this case I will add to the water the 70% of the 120gr of KOH which is 84gr and 30% of the 110gr of NaOH which is 33gr of NaOH

Thank you Sapwn!

I made another tiny batch today. This time I added 1.5% SL to hopefully make a firmer soap. I'd like to make a puck for my female friends to use. This new batch has been in the frig. for an hour and a half and it's much firmer than the previous batch without SL. This might have done the trick! I added Green Tea FO and a little Green Chrome Oxide for a light green.

Thank you very much for clearing that up Sapwn. I swear I read that its supposed to be based on oil weight and ill be honest I thought that seemed kind of odd considering how much stuff I was adding to the batch. I know better now and learned a very valuable lesson. How you explained it makes so much more sense and I ran the numbers this time and will be adding them to my recipe so I don't make that mistake again. The difference is quite substantial. I should have only put in a total 2.95oz (combined KOH and NaOH) in 6.08oz of water as opposed to the huge amount that I did put in. I think I am going to make this recipe again with the new numbers and see how it turns out this time. Thanks again for clearing that up. I just know that's going to make a world of difference.

To figure out your KOH and NaOH amounts it might be easier to use a soap calc that does cream soap. On my Soapmaker program there's a place to put the percents you want to use like KOH 4 parts to NaOH 6 parts and it will give you the amount of each. Soapmaker is not the only one that does this there are free online calculators that do cream soap also.
