Hey Ade
I suppose there's food coloring in jello and, aside from the fact it would be unconcentrated, because of the high PH of soap those colors can morph.
I don't use food coloring myself; but I'm sure I've seen some topics about it around.

Fragrance won't come through... You'll really need to buy either essential oils (EO's) or fragrance oils (FO's) to get a good scent.

I was the kind of kid who got into the cupboards and ate the sugared Kool-aid off my fingers. It stains like you wouldn't believe. I wonder if it would stain in soap... Maybe it wouldn't be concentrated enough to do that.

ME Too!!!

You can do that, or you can use crayons (wouldn't recommend jello cause of the gelatin, who knows what it'd do...)

The longtime soapers will tell you to stay away from kool-aid/crayons because those aren't approved colorants, so you can't sell the bars, but they are fine for personal use. If anything I wouldn't use the kool-aid because what if it stains your skin or washcloth. I have used crayons with success but they do impart a funny smell to the bars in my opinion and end up looking pastel instead of vibrant. Anything is worth trying once though.

why would you make a lovely soap and put stinky crayons into it?
I wouldn't waste my time or ingredients in something you already know to be faulty.

I've used crayons to color soap too. I haven't added scent yet so the soap smells slightly oily but the smell has dissipated a bit in the few weeks since I made it.

Blue-green turned a disgusting grey-green during blending. I added straight blue to that and it cured to the pastel blue of Coast soap. I rebatched it and, lo and behold, it turned grey-green again on heating but cooled down to the pastel blue.

Would someone point me in the direction to verify that soap with crayon coloring can't be sold, even if it's sold as simply soap? I mean, crayons are safe enough for us to let our toddlers hold in their hands all day.

I don't have a site or anything to show, maybe someone else does, but I have read that the reason for the FDA not allowing it to be sold is that crayons are not a "cosmetic grade" ingredient and anything you put in your soap should be cosmetic for it to be sold to a customer.

This is just what I have read from blogs and websites, and how I have interpreted it, I could be wrong and I'm sure someone here has much more knowledge on the subject. (had to throw that in! lol)
