Hey guys

I religiously use the dishwasher a couple of times to clean up soap making equipment [which is mostly dedicated]. But twice now I've found suds and/or water on the floor. The first time was very obviously because there was too much finished soap causing too much suds inside the dishwasher, but I didn't find todays until all the cycles had finished (which had soapmaking gear inside again).

So, I'm wondering - something wrong with my dishwasher, or is this just to be expected and I should be more conscientious about how much saponified material is actually going in.

Any one else ever have this problem? Its odd, because I've never had a problem many other times.

The machine isn't broken, it's behaving as expected. You simply cannot put soapy stuff in there. Perhaps you got lucky in the past - maybe you had less soap on your stuff, maybe it hadn't saponified yet, who knows... But don't do it.

Also you may find that washing your soaping equipment with dishes causes a film on other dishes and perhaps even damage to aluminum pans and such.

I recommend you absolutely wash your equipment by hand.

I always hand wash everything but only AFTER I wipe all raw soap batter from the pot, spoons with a papertowels. I don't want all that fresh made soap going down my drains and possibly clogging something up. I sometimes put my spoons and such in the dishwasher after I have hand washed then

Thanks, I think you two pegged it correctly. I think the variable is how well I've pre-washed/rinsed items, and the timing for how much has fully saponified. I'll know to be extra careful in future, thanks.

Here's a great tip. Wipe out your soaping pots/containers with a rag. Apply the raw soap to stuck on stuff in or on your oven. Come back 15 minutes later and wipe clean. It's awesome. Smells a lot better than your average oven cleaning spray too.
