I've been watching a few tuts on the gorgeous Column Swirl technique.

I've noticed that some pour the batter directing onto the column, and others pour it through a funnel, onto the column.

Can someone please tell me what difference the funnel makes?

I don't know as I haven't tried this swirl yet (soon I hope) but I would guess it is for better control of your soap. That way you don't risk accidently not making it on the column and messing up your pattern. That's what I would end up doing!

You don't need the funnel it just helps you keep the pour directly center on the column so that it flows off of all four sides.
