well after seeing photos of people making coffee soap, i thought i would take a shot at it!

i made some espresso with my italian bialetti and used that instead of water. i also used the coffee grounds in the soap as well. i didn't add any FO or EO since i didn't have any scents that that resembled coffee, but i might purchase some in the future. i wanna try it already!!! its only been like 15 minutes and its killing me!!!!!!

It looks amazing! I hope you don't have issues with that one side that isn't lined...I'd be afraid it won't unmold...soap looks scrumptious!

i didn't even realize one side was not lined!! it shouldn't be a problem since that wood has a good coat of olive oil. we will see!!

How did you ever refrain from licking the bowl?!

haha! i know! it was hard!! i actually made this for my father who loves coffee so im sure he will love it when he sees it!

Chris,

Your soap looks amazing. I'm intrigued now. How do you make a coffeesoap. Do you just substitute coffee for the water, and mix it with the lye. Do you chill or freeze it first?

So many questions, but the soap looks divine.

Cheers

Brambleberry has a beeeeauuutiful Turkish Mocha FO. I just keep smelling my coffee soaps all the time, it's so moorish!

Sandalwood FO works well with coffee soap. I have a recipe called Mechanics Dream in which I also use ground pumice.

Fabulous

Good gracious ms molley it looks good enough to eat. Although I wouldn't try it mind you. Can't wait to see the final pics when its sliced. :)

thanks everyone!! i just substituted the water for espresso/very strong coffee. i first mix the lye with only about 10 grams of just water. i didn't wanna mix the coffee with the lye because i have done this in the past with tea and it completely changes the smell of the tea. im guessing because the lye just cooks the crap out of the tea, ruining it. so i mixed the lye/water mixture and just add the rest of the espresso/water substitute when near trace. i then added about half a tablespoon of used coffee grounds to the soap at trace.

i was actually on their website last night. i was trying to figure out the cost of shipping and it seems like its about $8.50 flat rate?? i am going to purchase some essential oils pretty soon and i was wondering where i can purchase some. i am going to order from Iherb.com for sure since they are very cheap, good quality and fast shipping. unfortunately they don't have much of a selection of EO.

Oh boy does that look great! I recently took a stab at making a coffee soap scented with peppermint EO for holiday gifts and called it CoffeeMint Kitchen Soap - it was such a hit. My hubby says its the best soap he has ever used and he always heads to the kitchen sink to wash his hands...so now we have a bar in the baths too! :) I think your tip of not putting all the coffee in with the lye sounds good. The smell when I mixed the coffee with the lye was horrible and I was so afraid it would smell like that when done, but it didn't linger fortunately. The peppermint is really nice though it does take over the coffee smell.

well i just unmolded the soap and it has a funky smell :( im a little depressed by it. i should have added some sort of fragrance or essential oils, which i have very very little of and none to match the "coffee". man!!!

Well at the very least just throw it in the kitchen- I've heard coffee is great at getting smells off your hands (ex. garlic, onion, etc.)

It looks beautiful though! Good Idea

? about CP coffee soap

I was going to post a question on making coffee soap the CP way and decided I'd do a search first and found this.
I'd like to make a coffee soap for the kitchen and to wash my hands with.
Where can I find a recipe for the coffee soap? The DVD I have of my nieces has a milled coffee soap in it but I wondered why you couldn't do a CP one?
Would it work if you used part water with the lye and then added all your coffee and coffe grounds at the end at trace?
Man I sure hope you all don't get tired of all my questions!

COFFE KITCHEN SOAP
(from the EVERYTHING SOAPMAKING BOOK)
______________________________________________________

2 pound batch recipe of your choice, substitutuing strong brewed coffee for the water, plus 2 tablespoons of finely ground coffee

"It is common soapmaking lore that ground coffee has a deodorizing effect on the skin. Coffee is said to be able to remove the odors of garlic and onions from your hands. You'll have to see for yourself, but there is deffinately a useful scrubbing action from the ground coffee."

  • *Make a 2 lb batch, substituting strong brewed coffee for the water.
    *Stir good to medium trace.
    *Add fresh coffee grounds

from my own experience, once you put the coffee in the lye, prepare yourself for a really AWFUL smell (relax, it goes away and doesn't effect the final scent or complicate your FO's or EO's at all) ALSO there will appear, on the surface of your lye solution, a layer of GOOK. I think it's just oils in the coffee saponifying.
