Coffee soap tips?

I want to make my first batch of coffee soap. I've made 100% Lard soap. Also GM soap with olive, coconut, soybean, sunflower oil, and coconut juice and now I want to make a GM Coffee soap. I want to make it with Lard, Coconut, Olive, and Castor Oils. I'm curious as to how to go about it. Is it best to use instant and ground coffee beans? Or use fresh brewed coffee to dilute my condensed GM with and add coffee grounds at trace? I just dont know!! My idea would be the last one mentioned but I'm calling upon all you wise soapers out there to bestow upon me your wise advice! Thanks!

I generally brew my coffee the day prior and brew it 5x stronger than i normally make my coffee,
After its brewed i freeze almost all of it so the lye wont burn the coffee and i slowley mix in the lye, ( So i use it in place of water)
then i add coffee grounds at trace

I made coffee soap once using double-strong espresso. It was so rich and brown that I had to add TD to be able to use any other colors. It's amazing that none of the coffee aroma survives the lye reaction.

What are the benefits of making coffee soap? If it is the scent I am all for it. Just never heard of it. Also what are the benefits of adding coffee grounds? Thanks.

The coffee smell does not survive when you make soap with it. you need to add a EO/FO for that
Topical application of caffeine reduces your chances for skin cancer, helps get rid of cellulite, wrinkles, and because your skin absorbs some of the caffeine it can help wake you up in your morning shower, Ive herd (this is the only one im not sure about) that it can reduce your chances of getting a sun burn to.

Coffee also absorbs oeders and the grounds are are reeeaaallly good for getting stuff of your skin like fatty oils which is why i keep a bar in my kitchen.

I have mixed feelings on her. Most of her vids are wonderful but I've seen a couple with information that was purely opinion presented as fact. She's great for newbies though.

I've made coffee soap and to make it really, really strong I've used 5x strength and then added instant coffee to kick it up a level. I do like the idea of separating some out for TD and creating a bit of froth top. Hmmm might need to try this again but minus the caffeine powder, I think I'll keep that for face creams (which reminds me I have some of that and some vitamin C waiting for me to play)...

I've never managed to keep the coffee scent either....

Yeah ive noticed that to, ive never added the caffeine powder but i really like the nice brown that coffee gives.
I never thought of adding Vitamin C to soap!! Sounds really nice!
Ive noticed a very tiny coffee smell with the soaps ive done a pencil line with the grounds :/ not very noticeable tho...

CaliChan I got the Vitamin C for the face creams as well. Too expensive for a wash off product.... but just my opinion there.... :lolno:

its doubtful, Lindy was saying thats what she does and she hasnt had the smell survive.
If you want a coffee smell to your coffee soaps your gonna need an EO/FO.

I think the only way you would get the natural coffee smell to survive would be to do HP and add some instant coffee at the end of the cook and just before you mould your soap. Hmmm that might be worth a try....

Or rebatch, adding coffee as liquid and grounds...mine had a nice light coffee scent.

I make a Goatmilk 'n' Coffee Scrub soap - sells well too - when getting everything ready I freshly fine grind 1/4 cup coffee beans - I add them after trace and then pour into our PVC round moulds - some people say they can smell the coffee all I can smell is the goats milk, but my scense of smell died years ago (!!!) it's a great exfoliant soap.

as others have said, it's a great exfoliant soap and a fabulous kitchen soap, as it absorbs kitchen odors, even fish!

I'm okay with my soap not having scent. I've only made a few batches so far with ingredients I can find at the store. I would LOVE to soap with EOs but I am taking the advice I've found on the threads to just take things slow first and not do any crazy potentially seizing EOs and such. I was thinking about adding cocoa powder to my coffee soap as well! I think it would be pretty neat!
