I make a coffee soap that is one of my best sellers... the coffee and the grounds in it do not add any fragrance at all and I don't add any additional fragrance. Coffee grounds absorb odors and there seems to be no point in adding fragrance as it disappears very quickly. I sell it as a Kitchen Soap to absorb strong odors such as onions, garlic, fish, etc. My customers swear by the stuff, saying it will remove any odor from your hands!

Why do people put sugar in their coffee soap recipes? What benefit does it add?

I agree with southernheartsoaps. I didn't add any fragrance to mine soap and I love it. I've shared some with friends at work and they like it too. Makes a great scubbing soap. I use it on my feet in the shower. :D I think I might make another batch today.
