Do you add fresh or used coffee grounds to your soap?

How many ounces of espresso do you add PPO?

The espresso and grounds go in at trace, right?

This will be my third batch of soap! Let's hope everything turns out ;)

I used used grounds rather than fresh ones and found that it is a nice exfoliant, fresh ones might be harsher. I used 1 tsp ppo.

Hehe, from what I have read, nothing really helps with cellulite except exercise (possibly).

i am not sure about helping with cellulite but the caffeine is supposed to be good for your skin...Does anyone use brewed espresso as the liquid in soap?

I didn't use espresso, I used Tim Horton's dark roast as my liquid, but then again, I don't drink express ever drink espresso so I don't have it on hand.

I used triple strength coffee in place of my water. . I use fresh grounds & grind them to powder - 1 tsp/lb of oils.

hi all

i made coffee soap last weekend. added sugar to coffee+lye solution. everything went well and tracing happened really quick. but i noticed the following things
1> the soap solution was very hot . is this because of coffee and lye or is it sugar? do we need to take extra care while curing coffee soaps with sugar?

2>now that the soap bars are curing i see some discoloured patches on them. this is not soap ash but a proper circular patch. any idea what is going on? is this normal for a coffee soap?

3>i am seeing someamount of soap ash too. what to do prevent this?

here are some snaps of my coffee soap to help the members get a better idea of that discoloured patch. can anybody help me?

I would really like to know what caused the discoloration and white patches in the soap myself.

Coffee soap is one that I have to make constantly. Some people want it extra "scratchy" so for theirs I add quite a bit of used coffee grinds. I would say maybe two tablespoons per pound. My wife loves it and the scratchier it is the better for her.

My recipe is so simple and everyone that has used it constantly asked for more. For a one pound recipe I use 15oz Lard, 1 oz castor oil, 5.3 oz brewed coffee (well chilled), 2.10 oz Lye, and of course Fresh Brewed Coffee FO at light trace, scent to satisfaction. It then sits in the mold for about 48 hours and I then cut it and let it cure. I promise you, I can'tmake enough of this!

I like it myself but not to keen on the excess coffee grinds that my wife likes. But the scent is wonderful in the shower.

By the way, I chill the coffee after brewing as my own preference. Some other people use at room temperature.

I replace my liquid with coffee, and throw in a coffe grounds to boot. I have seen that caffeine helps with cellulite.

That is really strange Apurwa!

Here's a pic of the coffee soap I made after starting this thread :)

I'm super happy at how creamy and chocolatey it turned out! lol, my espresso and coffee grounds morphed into a chocolate pudding scent.

I just re-read your post, apurwa, and got an idea. The sugar in GM makes it overheat easily . . . maybe the sugar you added made the solution hotter and more bubbly. Plus I added my coffee @ trace and tried soaping RTCP.

Thanks all for all the help.

@cherry -- will you mind telling me your recipe? your coffee soaps look so different than mine. like you said too much of sugar could be the culprit here. in my next batches i will try with less sugar. lets see.

Anyone know if the coffee grounds in the soap help w cellulite??

Nothing gets rid of cellulite hon. :( On a toned body, it is less noticeable, so all is not lost.

She's right. Nothing really gets rid of cellulite although diet and exercise helps. But the tannin in coffee and other detoxifying liquids and essential oils helps to pull water from the cells so they lay flatter. This decreases the appearance of the cellulite but as soon as you start drinking and consuming salty stuff...poof...it's baaack.

I made coffee soap today. Took forever to trace! Added 1 1/2 tsp sugar into the coffee and disolved bfore adding the lye and did everything else as usual. I did end up adding 1/2 oz of hot fudge brownie fo cause my daughter was complaining about the smell (was not good). It's in the mold now and hopefully turns out. I did also add coffee grounds (used) at trace.

Does coffee soap usually take longer to trace? I've never added sugar before but after reading a few posts decided to try it. Could that have caused the delay?

I have a coffee soap question. I hope its okay to post to this thread...

Today, after about 4 weeks of torture, I finally got to try my coffee soap and I’m not sure if I like results.
I added strong coffee (maybe triple strength) in place of water for my lye mixture and added a tablespoon of fresh coffee grounds at trace. The soap doesn't smell bad but it doesn't smell anything like coffee. More of a very mild earthy nut smell. Will this change with time or should I add Coffee Fragrance oil to my next coffee batch? Also the coffee grounds are really scratchy. I'm not sure if I like it that way or not. Should I have ground up the coffee for a finer texture? I've been hanging out on these forums for a few days now and there are so many great experienced soapers out there. Just wondering if any of you have any tips for making a good coffee bar.

I've read quite a few places that the coffee doesn't lend any scent to the final product - just a nice dark brown color and if you use grounds, a bit of exfoliation.

I've only made it one time, but I used a coffee FO because of what I read. I used Coffee Italy from SOS, and it was really amaretto/cherry smelling at first. Now that it has cured for a few weeks, the coffee scent is more prominent and you cant' smell the amaretto. I have some Coffee Beans FO from WSP I hope to soap with in the next day or so.

I was just looking at the pictures of your coffee soap that you posted back in Feb. I think the lighter circles in the middle of the soap are caused by a "partial gel".
