I made a soap with 40% coconut oil, and customer said it is perfect for his eczema. Just wondering Olive oil & Coconut oil, which one is better for eczema?

Olive oil for eczema

Hi,

Olive oil is one of the best ingredient for curing eczema, it has Linoleic Acid for this treatment, but coconut oil has PUFA (polyunsaturated Fatty Acid) and Methionine, that chemicals are more important then Linoleic Acid on the curing processes of eczema treatment...

Thank you, when we make soaps for eczema, do you reckon a soap with 70% evoo & 30% co is better than 100% ev oo soap?

Does your family have dry skin? Or do they have eczema? They're different things & are usually treated differently.

If it's just dry skin, then coconut oil used in small amounts in a soap should be fine, just up the superfat of your recipe. Using a lotion or body butter after washing will help as well.
Eczema on the other hand can be signs of allergies or other problems & should be seen by a doctor before trying to use anything to fix it.

100% OO, unscented, is best for eczema.

Your customer may be sensitive to detergent-based bars and that may be why your soap is working for him.

I would find coconut oil at 40% to be very drying on my skin. What SF do you use?

I sell 40% coconut oil soap for people who has very very oily skin. I added 8% evoo for sf

I agree with this point of view  We have allergy/eczema issues with our oldest. And I have thin, dry skin.
They are two separate issues and the kids doctors have made it supremely clear that her eczema is from her allergies. We made her a custom soap for her skin. After using for awhile her skin will clear completely on her legs.
BUT as I was discussing with her the other day.....(after I realized she had a flare up of the eczema because she had quit using HER soap and had been using other bars that were in the shower that had other ingredients that are not ideal for allergy prone skin....i.e. Fragrance Oil for one!) she has to eliminate ingredients in her soap that could contribute to the allergies (like FO and whatever else that is in commercial soaps that is not in our homemade CP) So she has an absence of irritants in the soap itself.
THEN she must treat the problem AFTER washing. I think I finally have gotten the point across that she can't use the other soaps and that HER soap isn't treating the eczema per say. Then she must apply a leave on treatment that is designed for helping with the problem she has. She is only 14, and what girl this age doesn't want to use a soap that smells like Japanese Cherry Blossom (sigh) Poor thing. I hope that as she gets older and when she completes her schedule of allergy shots maybe she won't have to be so strict with it.

I don't think we can cure skin issues with soap. But I do believe we can treat it gently and kindly and it may recover from previous abuse from other soaps/products.

Funny thing is she can use a soap with higher CO than me with no problem. That would dry my hands right out!

Mixing amount of oils is OK, but the eczema has a various type unfortunately... Specially "atopic dermatitis" is not curable with topical applications. But the other allergically eczemas are curable, you can infuse in your olive oil white mulberry, fig leafs and poppy seeds, this infused oil will be effective the curing...
